Reviews Summary

Taste of Thai is praised for its authentic and flavorful Thai cuisine, with many highlighting the delicious Pad Thai and curries. The cozy ambiance with Thai decor adds to the dining experience. However, some customers have reported significant issues with extremely poor service, including rude staff, slow food delivery, and incorrect billing practices, which have led to disappointment despite the food quality.

"The flavors are truly authentic — perfectly balanced, not overly salty, and just the right level of sweetness. I highly recommend their Pad Thai!!!
The staff here are excellent — very friendly and helpful, always ready to offer recommendations if you’re unsure what to order. Prices are reasonable too, making it a great value for such quality."

"It may appear that the place is closed, but the main lights seem to be out.

Staff was very hospitable and knew well about the food items on the menu.

Most of the food was delicious. Tum Yum was too sour, so I would be cautious.

Thai Spicy Noodles were quite tasty. Thus, recommend. Spicy Rad Nah was nice & different (slimy). Ordered 4/5 spicy and was okayish hot. We eat Indian level hot food, so even 5/5 wouldn't be hot for us. Regular eaters could go up to 3 or 4.

The only complaint is the kids' music blasting from the kitchen entrance. It was very irritating as it was getting mixed with the music played throughout the restaurant. Couldn't enjoy the good vibe."

"One of the Thai restaurant that is open 365 days a year was something very different when the waiter told us so. We waited for some time to get seated as the restaurant was quite busy and eventually service was little late. We ordered few curries and rice - everything we tasted was good except the massaman curry which was very unusual in taste than the ones we have had. We have had much much better massaman curry in other restaurants. The pineapple fried rice was also a little let down as it was too sweet and soggy more like Indian Kashmiri Pulao. The Spring rolls, Fried Tofu , green curry, yellow curry , spicy fried rice we’re all really good."

Restaurants in Ithaca

Finding foreign fare in the Finger Lakes can be a challenge, but not in this university town. Ithaca has several Thai restaurants, and this family-owned and -operated choice is a favorite both for its consistent food and its location on the Commons. The casual but classy place has orange faux-finish walls and is decorated with Buddha statuettes.

Every once in a while I see their salamander t-shirts and get nostalgic. Great curries, solid service, and Dim Sum brinches on the weekends.

Tamarind - Some Like It Hot | Restaurant Reviews

Shortly after Tamarind opened on Feb. 14, 2008, I asked co-owner Sadudee Pancharoen ("April"), why she wanted to open another restaurant since she and her husband already owned Taste of Thai on The Commons. Pancharoen explained that she thought people driving along Route 13 were probably going to bypass The Commons and she wanted to access both traffic patterns. It also gave her the opportunity to offer recipes from all over Asia in addition to the most popular food from Thailand.

Primely placed in The Commons, a four-block pedestrian walkway in downtown Ithaca, Taste of Thai is a mainstay for students and locals alike. To start, try the satay skewers with cucumber relish, the lettuce wraps filled with chicken and crispy noodles or the fried flat dumpling chive cakes. As for mains, you can’t go wrong with classic pad Thai or pad see ew, spicy fried rice or any of the stir fries or curries.

Sometimes you just need a good Thai takeout place on standby to get your curry fix for a late-night dinner. Their yellow and red curries are so flavorful with hearty ingredients, spices, and creamy coconut milk. They’re spicy enough to coat your tongue and throat with a little bit of heat, but not to overpower the other delicious flavors and ingredients.

Both Taste of Thai AND Taste of Thai Express have been inconsistent. Sometimes they mess up so badly that I can see it (I have other allergies), and other times the food looks fine but I get horribly sick soon after, so we no longer risk it.
