Reviews Summary

Ol' Heidelberg offers a beloved taste of authentic German cuisine with a charming, traditional atmosphere. While many praise the hearty portions, delicious flavors, and nostalgic ambiance reminiscent of Germany, some recent reviews suggest a decline in food quality and portion size post-management change. Despite this, many long-time patrons still find it a worthwhile experience for its unique cultural feel and rich history.

"It is fantastic as always. I went here often growing up. I have since moved away, but I found myself back in town for a day, I knew I had to stop in for a meal. It's great to see they are still maintaining that great quality and taste. It's just like I remembered, perhaps even better. Remember to save a little room for their tasty desserts!"

Winfrey Reed

"This place is a bit unassuming, tucked away among numerous dining options with big signs and bright lights. But amidst all that, it stands as a hidden gem. The entrance greets you with an enticing display of cakes and treats, and the staff, dressed in charming German attire, adds a quaint touch.

The interior is a little dated, and the tablecloths feel unnecessary, as they don’t even fully cover the tables and mostly just get in the way.

To start, I had the warm bread — simple, but comforting. Then came the King Ludwig chicken, and wow, I was blown away. It was absolutely delicious! The dish is drenched in sauce — so much that you can barely see the food — but it’s incredible. I used the warm bread to soak up every drop. I also tried the pork schnitzel, a more basic dish, but equally impressive.

And the chocolate cake? Easily one of the best I’ve ever had"

Houston Hines

"My wife and I went here for our anniversary. We were in Germany a year ago, and we wanted to be reminded on that. They did an excellent job of recreating the atmosphere and preparing the dishes.
A little spendy but good."

There are really only two choices in town, and both are excellent – Hildegard’s German Cuisine and Ol Heidelberg Cafe. I guess there’s a third, the Biergarten at the Space and Rocket Center, but that’s as much about boosters as bratwurst. Plus, it’s been paused for a spell for social distancing.
