What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Truth BBQ is a highly acclaimed spot for authentic Texas barbecue, celebrated for its perfectly smoked meats like brisket and ribs, as well as its creative and delicious sides. While the food consistently earns rave reviews, diners should be prepared for potentially long wait times, especially during peak hours. Some patrons have also noted issues with communication regarding unexpected closures.
"Absolutely worth the wait. Don’t let the line scare you off, once you’re at the counter, you’ll know why it’s there. Hands down the best smoked turkey breast I’ve ever had. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender with rich flavor, and the brisket was top notch. I couldn’t stop talking about this place once I got home. Next time I’m in Houston, I’ll be stopping here first and again before I leave."
Barry Joseph
"I’m currently on a quest to find the best BBQ in Houston & Truth BBQ hit the mark! Honestly I’m still dreaming about this experience. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was mouthwatering and exactly what I look for in Texas BBQ.
In my quest to try everything, I ordered the three meat combo with two sides: I got the brisket, pork ribs, spicy pepper jack sausage, brussel sprouts and mac & cheese. Let me tell you! The ribs fell off the bone and were
absolutely delicious; the brisket was the perfect flavoring, while the sausage had the perfect kick to it. While the mac & cheese were mediocre, the Brussels sprouts were out of this world and made up for it. Honestly, I only have raving reviews about this place.
I would recommend you get there on the early side of the day though. My table of two got there at 11:02AM, just two minutes past opening, and there was a line outside. While the establishment offers free water and overhead fans for those waiting, the Houston heat can get to you fast, especially waiting long periods of time. Despite our two minute past opening arrival, we waited outside for about 20 minutes, with another 15 minute spent waiting inside (about 35 minute wait time total). Even so, the food made it worth it.
Honestly, I would recommend this place for everyone, especially if you want some good Texas BBQ."

"Truth BBQ delivered on flavor, especially with the brisket it was rich, smoky, and full of character. However, I found it to be a bit on the dry side. One downside was that the chopped brisket was only available when we ordered, which was disappointing after waiting nearly 45 minutes. On a brighter note, the Brussels sprouts were a standout, perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The staff were friendly and helpful, which added to the overall experience."

The Best Barbecue in Houston
Although the acclaimed original location in Brenham is little more than a roadside shack, this Houston Heights sequel from owner and pitmaster Leonard Botello IV is a gleaming model of modern efficiency. Inspector notes: "Fortunately, the cooking still has plenty of soul: the brisket is expectedly solid, while smoked pork ribs and house-made sausages are a cut above. Surprisingly, sides like collards, beans and corn pudding—or even the more rarified tater tot casserole with crisp fried onions— might even be the highlight, offering the flavorful, rib-sticking quality of lovingly homemade dishes. If, somehow, you manage not to fill up on the tantalizing savory options, those with an implacable sweet tooth can tip the scales with hefty slices of house-made cake.". (Even if you’re just in the vicinity, Truth BBQ is an irresistible temptation. I was recently down the street on an errand, and the wafting oak wood smoke coming from Truth was like one of those beckoning cartoon fingers.)( Of course you’re going to get brisket ($36-per-pound price be damned) and ribs, but Vaughn’s pro tip is to not sleep on the Smoked and Fried Tea-Brined Pork Chop, which is served with pepper relish and only available Friday through Sunday. Vaughn also noted that, unlike many barbecue restaurants, there are actually some good vegetables there thanks to dishes such as roasted glazed Brussels sprouts and the kale Caesar.
