What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Jün garners significant praise for its innovative and harmoniously blended Asian-Latin American cuisine, with many guests highlighting the unique flavor combinations and artful presentation. The customer service is often lauded as top-notch, contributing to an intimate and enjoyable dining experience, particularly for date nights or special occasions. However, some reviews suggest the restaurant can be perceived as slightly overhyped, with occasional inconsistencies in dishes and service that don't always meet the high expectations set by its reputation.
"This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
We ordered the tasting menu with a wine pairing, added fried chicken, and had a few other cocktails throughout the evening.
The shrimp, sausage, chicken, carrots, brisket, and dessert were all 10/10 incredible- I don’t know how to pick a favorite. Squash wasn’t bad.
Wine pairing was also excellent, I even really enjoyed the wines I wouldn’t typically order. The Golden Hour and Green Michelada were both out of this world.
Service was also top notch. They happily reseated us when I complained about a draft.
I think Joshua was our server’s name. He took such great care of us. Proactively asked how we enjoyed our drinks and offered to replace one when my boyfriend said it wasn’t his style. Got me an extra sip of wine when I finished it before the second paired course came out. Loved discussing the menu with him and really appreciated how friendly he was.
This place just clenched the spot for my favorite restaurant in Houston. Definitely try it!"

"I enjoyed my cocktails , appetizer and whole fish . However I felt this place was a tad over rated . Dishes can be a hit or miss , proportions are definitely on the small side . Service was not the best , I was definitely expecting better given the hype. Try the michelada and shrimp appetizer , branzino was good, stay away from the chicken dish . The decor needs improvement by the bar area . I feel like they spent more time decorating and seasoning the bathroom than the restaurant."

"Thank you Jessica for such a wonderful birthday dinner last night. An amazing dinner experience with my wife is the best gift.
We went to Jūn in The Heights - a place we have been dying to go to for years now. Finally found the right occasion to do it.
We have been watching the current season of Top Chef and I’ve been a fan of Evelyn Garcia and Henry Lu for a while and what a team they make at Jūn. The service and style were perfect.
A wonderful evening."

10 Essential Houston Restaurants Every Visitor Should Try
Complex Mexican, Salvadoran, and Southeast Asian flavors intermingle in harmony at Jūn, one of the most exciting restaurants to hit the Houston scene in recent years. Founded by Top Chef: Houston finalist Evelyn Garcia (who was raised in Houston) and chef Henry Lu (raised in the Bronx), Jūn features a menu that celebrates their diverse upbringings through dishes like the beef tartare—served with egg yolk, toasted rice, citronette, and a crispy sesame buñuelo—and creative desserts, such as the goat cheesecake, which is flavored with black peppercorn and berries, topped with honeycomb candy, and served with lychee ginger sorbet. Diners would also be remiss if they didn’t look at Jūn’s cocktail selection, which offers sips like a gussied-up Michelada, which features the classic (and obligatory) Modelo beer but is also spiced with fish sauce, hoisin sauce, chili, and lime.

The Heights restaurant does the whole small plates thing better than the rest. Flavors and textures so blissfully fade one into the next—carrots with salsa macha and Salvadoran cheese leading into a bowl of savory grits with crawfish gravy and tomato—that once dessert hits the table, the meal becomes personal, as though Jūn reached into your soul and created food meant solely for you. No matter how many times we eat at Jūn, or what evolves on the menu, the experience remains unchanged.

One of the places that initiated this change is Jūn, pronounced like the month, where Top Chef alum Evelyn Garcia, who is from Houston, and chef Henry Lu, who grew up in the Bronx, have crafted a distinctive menu that blends Asian and Latin American influences. “All our food at Jūn has the flavors and combinations that we grew up eating, but it might be presented differently,” Garcia told me.

New World meets Old at this lively young Heights restaurant, where the city’s contemporary foodways rock and roll. Co-chefs Henry Lu and Evelyn Garcia, finalist and star of “Top Chef” Houston, call their food “New Asian American.” Their tidy, shareable-plate menu really does taste like something new under the sun: popping with the bold flavors Houston craves, weaving together the chefs’ Chinese, Mexican and Salvadoran roots, and borrowing gleefully from the Southeast Asian cuisines in which Garcia has long specialized. So feathery-crusted fried chicken gets a briny tang from fermented shrimp paste; and silky beef tartare laced with Thai basil arrives with a crunchy starburst of buñuelo on top.
