Located in the vibrant town of Hot Springs, SQZBX Brewery & Pizza is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered by food enthusiasts seeking a delightful culinary experience. As a family-run parlor, they serve up classic pizzas, salads, and subs, alongside their own house-brewed beer, creating a harmonious blend of flavors for every palate to savor. The newest brewery in Hot Springs is also a pizza restaurant and low power radio station. James Spencer from Basic Brewing Radio recently posted an interview with SQZBX co-owner Zac Smith, who is apparently a fan of the old German purity law known as the Reinheitsgebot (which restricts beer to just four ingredients—water, barley, hops, and yeast). He joked with Spencer that the absence of adjuncts in the beer might help stave off morning-after hangovers.

SQZBX, aka ‘squeezebox’, is a family owned pizza spot and brewery located at 236 Ouachita Avenue. As to the types of brews people can find here, the inspiration comes from the German and Czech styes of brewing, in the tradition of the Reinheitsgebot, the 502 year old Bavarian beer purity law, using only water, malted and roasted grains, hops, and yeast. Hot Springs City Water is also used, which has an ideal chemistry for brewing lighter beers.

Food spots you might overlook but should definitely check out in Hot Springs: Cafe 1217 for a tasty lunch spot, Taco Mama for delicious drinks and tacos (of course), SQZBX Pizza Joint (try the Greek pizza), and Best Cafe at the Best Court Motel for a deliciously retro breakfast spot. And of course Starlite Club for all the ’80s dive bar weirdness your heart could desire.

Another recent pizza addition to Hot Springs is SQZBX Brewery & Pizza. Located in a renovated historic building that used to be a piano store, SQZBX offers great pizza and beer in a beautiful location. They make their fermented dough daily, let it cold-proof for a couple of days then hand toss it to make their charred, crispy outside crust pizzas with fresh ingredients.

A pizza place, a brewery, and a FM radio station all in one – that’s the best way to describe SQZBX Brewery & Pizza Joint in downtown Hot Springs. Walk up to the window on Ouachita Avenue and you will see a disc jockey to the left and pizza dough being tossed high in the air to the right. SQZBX is short for “squeeze box,” another name for the accordion.

It’s self-proclaimed that Hot Springs is the pizza capital of Arkansas, and there’s a good reason for it. So let me call your attention to the one pizza shop that won out over all others during last year’s Feast Month: SQZBX Brewery and Pizza. If parents love craft beer and everyone loves pizza, SQZBX Pizzeria and Brewery is the perfect place to eat in Hot Springs with kids. I mean, pizza and beer – what’s more to love?. What was once a piano repair shop is now SQZBX Pizzeria and Brewery – a family-run, New Jersey-style pizza joint and craft brewery.

Anchoring the Ouachita Historic District, SQZBX offers hand-tossed pizzas baked on a stone deck, diverse fresh salads, and sandwiches piled with old-school deli meats and cheeses. Enjoy SQZBX’s German-style beers brewed for drinking with great food in an award-winning historic building. Open daily at 11 a.m.

I wanted to try at least one more pizza spot in Hot Springs to do a comparison so we went to a newer pizza spot called SQZBX and I love both of them. SQZBX pizzas come in three different sizes so you don’t have to commit to a giant pie. I got the pepperoni pizza and brought home leftovers with me.

If your choice goes with more cheese, SQZBX Pizza Joint & Brewery is the answer. The name (Squeeze Box) refers to an accordion and the place is known for delicious craft beer, wine, or cider, but you can also order lemonade, coffee, tea and more.

If you are in a hurry or want a meal that is easy to share, then pizza is probably your best option. You may choose between an 8 inch pizza to an 18 inch. Each pie here has its own personality and flavor bouquet, so you really can't go wrong.
