Reviews Summary

Ono Seafood is celebrated for its incredibly fresh fish and authentic, flavorful poke bowls, particularly the Shoyu Ahi. While most praise the quality and taste, some reviews mention limited outdoor seating, tight parking, and occasional inconsistencies in rice quality or fish texture. Despite minor drawbacks, it remains a highly recommended local favorite for poke enthusiasts.

"The guy is very friendly. The place has outdoor seats. He gives you suggestions on how to create your bowl. There is a lot of fish and it is really fresh. I have tried wasabi ahi and it was superb. Recommended."

Filippo Basagni

"Nice Poke place!

We had the tuna poke. They serve you the food right away. We really liked it! Super fresh and excellent seasoning

Highly recommend!"

Alvaro Mesa

"This was our poke stop on Hawaii trip and we had selected this spot based on the high rating that this spot enjoys on Google.
We had the Spicy Ahi and the Shoyu Ahi. The Spicy Ahi was unfortunately bland and lacked any spice. On the other hand, the Shoyu Ahi was flavorful and had a kick to it.
The quantity was pretty good for the two of us.
Seating is limited and is outdoors.
Overall, not bad but maybe we should have skipped the Spicy Ahi."

This humble hole-in-the-wall spot dishes out one of the best poke in the entire state of Hawaii. A important note to leave here is to not confuse Ono Seafood with Ono Hawaiian Food, which just a few blocks down from Ono Seafood. Upon entry, you’ll notice that the store isn’t very large; however, that doesn’t make it incapable of putting out some poke that is super ‘ono (fun fact: ‘ono means delicious in Hawaiian.) Getting a parking spot can require making a deal with the devil (walk 15 minutes inland from Waikiki Beach instead), but the one-room, counter-service Ono Seafood is popular for a reason. Owner Judy Samuka makes some of the best poke you've ever had. Poke, for the uninitiated, is diced fresh fish that's marinated with sesame oil, a little soy sauce, and maybe some salt, lime juice, wasabi, or cracked pepper, and then scooped in generous portions atop white rice.

Where Are the Best Poke Spots in Honolulu? A Local's Recommendations

If you ask me where’s consistently been the poke spot that I recommend and go to, it’s probably Ono Seafood. It's a really small, unassuming hole-in-the-wall place in the Kapahulu area, that in recent years has become pretty well known and extremely popular. Ono Seafood has been open since 1995, and currently has two locations in Honolulu. It’s evident that they source really high quality fish – we tried both the spicy and shoyu ahi poke, which were both very clean and fresh in flavor. We only wish they had served more fish and less rice in their bowl, especially since we didn’t think the quality of the white rice was very good.
