Diners can feast on big bowls of ramen done up with everything from pork belly to togarashi shrimp to porcini dust along with plates of uni gnocchi and lamb lumpia in the restaurant (which stays open until midnight).

A popular late-night stop, Lucky Belly serves its full menu until 12 a.m. every night except Sunday. Its takeout window serves specials—announced via @_dawindow on Instagram—until 2 a.m., Thursday to Saturday.

That evening, we ate in two of Chinatown’s best restaurants – The Pig and the Lady and Lucky Belly, having a small dish in each. The food in both places was really tasty. The Pig and the Lady is awesome, with tons of character and it’sreally busy on any given night, so you are best to book in advance. We were walk-ins and ate at the bar.

King St. in Chinatown, where lots of talented chefs are congregating downtown (like at Fête and Lucky Belly), is a far cry from the touristed resorts on Waikiki. The restaurant has even drawn the Obama family, who dined there two days after my own game-changing encounter.

You won’t just find noodles at Lucky Belly, although their menu does place the focus on both ramen and sake. Nevertheless, customers also enjoy ordering their pork belly or belly bao. You can also sample their oxtail dumplings, shrimp gyoza, beet salad and shu mai.

Lucky Belly, my wife really likes their takes on ramen and other Asian soups. Our friends that are into craft drink stuff like their drinks. It's also not in Salt which to me is a good thing.
