The prices at L'Uraku were reasonable and the food excellent - the restaurant is somewhat bright and light - not my usual preference for dining but in this case it worked. Diamond Head Grill had a more modern, sleek look and the food was also very good, although the service was just okay.

I happened to have a Diamond Head Grill and Market/Bakery's blueberry cream cheese scone two nights prior, and damn - Bread House's version just knocks it out of the park!!!!. The scone is not too bready or heavy, crumbles just right, has large blueberries that pop with a sweetly mellow and tart flavor, a generous middle layer of cream cheese through the scones, and has just the slightest crunchy crust at the outer corners. It isn't too small, and not too large.

It has a take-out restaurant with lots of local favorites, such as the loco moco and a teriyaki burger plate, as well as an indoor market with tons of freshly made, pre-packaged meals. I haven’t personally tried their acai bowls but my younger sister is a big proponent of them, and I trust her opinion in this department. I love making my own acai bowls, it’s fun to get creative with them.

Anywhere along the ocean side of Kapiolani Park is picnic perfect, with plenty of shade from a mix of ironwoods, banyans and coconut palms.

We were starving after our hike, so, of course we have to head over to Diamond Head Market and Grill for a post-hike snack. This little market in lined with shelves of groceries, ready-to-eat meals, and baked goods. But, I heard this cute little grill actually makes the best scones.

Across the street from Kapiolani Park, this takeout restaurant features healthier plate lunches options. They have some outdoor tables, but we recommend taking it to go and having a picnic in the park. The attached market offers delicious desserts and deli foods by the pound.

Located two blocks from Kapi’olani Park and the Waikiki Shell, this neighborhood eatery has a bakery on one side and a grill on the other. Expect local-style plate lunches and tasty sandwiches. Inside, the bakery sells scrumptious pastries, snacks, and groceries.

We’d been away from Gregg’s nearly a month, so our bakery withdrawal was strong. That and the fact we had just hiked Diamond Head so needed an instant sweet fix. We were recommended Diamond Head Market & Grill as THE bakery in Honolulu for their scones.

There are the poi glazed doughnuts from Kamehameha Bakery, blueberry cream cheese scones at Diamond Head Market & Grill, the cream pies from Ted’s Bakery. But if you sample the rest of the menu—which I did—you’ll discover something even sweeter.

I ate a LOT of grilled meats/rice plates around Oahu and this spot was the best out of all of them. Pretty close to Diamond Head trail, so you can hike and eat here. It’s takeout only, so it’s not a place to chill and relax.
