Ted's Bakery is a North Shore landmark and definitely somewhat of a local institution, but I always thought this place was kind of overhyped and pretty grimy. But that said, if a basic cup of brewed coffee and a pastry or breakfast sandwich is your kind of thing, this definitely beats any fast food chain option. I've had a few mornings where I've gone there just for a quick, cheap breakfast.

Oahu is a foodie paradise with a diverse selection of restaurants to choose from. But one of the most popular spots in town is Ted’s Bakery in Haleiwa, where you can catch some waves and enjoy some tasty sweet treats afterward. In addition to eating our weight in garlicky shrimp while on Oahu’s North Shore, The Astronomer, Luscious, and I also dug into two sweets and an additional savory: shave ice at Matsumoto, cream pie at Ted’s Bakery, and local-style rotisserie chicken at Ray’s. All three are highly recommended if you ever find yourself in these here beautiful parts.

We then stopped to get some late lunch/early dinner at Ted’s Bakery, home to the original chocolate-kaupia cream pie, just down the road. By this point, we were running out of time and daylight so we just made one final stop at beautiful Kawela Bay as the sun was setting. We then continued on Highway 83, then took Highway 63 back to Waikiki.

If you are looking for the best place to try Haupia Cream Pie, you NEED to try Ted’s Bakery. Their Chocolate Haupia Cream Pie is delicious and the best I’ve ever had—creamy and rich filled, paired with a tender crust. The haupia cream pie is not too sweet and is one of the best pies I’ve ever had!

We also indulged in some regional specialties on the North Shore: the chocolate haupia cream pie at Ted’s Bakery; fresh coconut, pineapple and sugar cane spears from a roadside vendor; even the exclusive Hawaiian oatcake at Starbucks. Eating like this definitely felt like we were in the tropics.

I will always love Giovanni’s, but Ted’s Bakery is my new favorite shrimp spot on the North Shore Hawaii. Their plate comes with less shrimp, but they are huge and peeled. Their sauce is scampi-style with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top; different than Giovanni’s, but pretty spectacular.

Ted’s Bakery: You may go to Sunset Beach’s Ted’s Bakery for a plate lunch or quick breakfast, but one thing should always happen: get a slice of pie. The bakery also has pastries, breads, and cookies of all kinds, but their pie is the star of the show. And there are so many pies.

Ted’s Bakery I could never pick one dessert that is the best from this place, they are ALL amazing. Get a few different slices and take one bite of each flavor to experience the joy that is Ted’s!!!. They offer plate lunches too but I really think the dessert is where it’s at!

While this is a bakery, they do offer plate lunches as well like chicken katsu, hot fresh sandwiches or garlic shrimp plates. This is a great spot to stop for breakfast too for their breakfast plates. Ted’s was nominated for some of Hawaii’s best food for a few years now.

I’m loosely related to the owner of Ted’s Bakery through marriage, but that won’t stop me from being honest. Ted’s Bakery gained notoriety a couple decades ago through it’s Chocolate Haupia pies. Haupia is a gelatin coconut, and if it’s done well, it’s awesome.

This bakery has MANY awards and definitely lives up to the expectations. We stopped by after dinner and grabbed a single slice of coconut cake. We brought it with us and ate it together on a hammock at Sunset Beach at Sunset, what a mood huh?!

Ted's Bakery in Haleiwa is just a minute or two down the road from the picturesque Sunset Beach. Some folks visit Ted's for their breakfast sandwiches or garlic shrimp. But my family loves stopping by Ted's for their pastries.

They serve up some of the best chocolate haupia cream pies around. Their macadamia nut pineapple cheesecakes are also a crowd favorite. You can find this well-known cafe among other top spots for food lovers in the area.

Recently, Ted’s added island foods to its menu of pies and cakes. I’ve not had any because I can’t get past Fumi’s. I only stop at Ted’s for its legendary chocolate haupia pie, the single dessert item that made it famous.

If you’re wondering what haupia is… it is a gelatin coconut dessert. The combination of the coconut and the chocolate is a match made in heaven!. Don’t get me started on the pie crust!!
