Loyalists of Roy Yamaguchi's celebrated spots in Hawaii Kai and Waikiki are thrilled to find his North Shore outpost—a rustic, beam-and-concrete-floor pavilion literally on the sand at Turtle Bay. All the favorites are served at this more beach-casual spot, from the miso deep-water black cod to the beef short ribs, along with a more casual lunch menu.

In an effort to look like we belonged there instead of like a couple of gate-crashers, we settled into the bar at Roy’s Beach House (which we think served as the bar in the movie, but still couldn’t quite be certain). This Hawaiian fusion restaurant is one of Roy Yamaguchi’s, related to the Roy’s chain, and as such, is an expensive yet pleasant way to relax for a few hours and act like you’re part of the scene. The setting was perfect with a clear view of the beach, the bartenders were extremely friendly and welcoming, and we were thirsty.

On O‘ahu’s North Shore, local celebrity chef Roy Yamaguchi’s excellent fare can be found in his beach house venue, tucked away at the north side of Turtle Bay Resort, overlooking the gorgeous Kuilima Cove. Roy’s Beach House is just steps from the white powder sand and you can expect the same focus on locally-inspired dishes that reflect Hawai‘i’s rich diversity and cultural history, as found in Yamaguchiʻs other eateries (Roy’s, Eating House 1849). Yamaguchi is one of the founding fathers of Hawai‘i Regional Cuisine.

The first Roy’s in Hawaii Kai is known for its stellar service, but his Beach House at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s north shore just can’t be beat when it comes to ambiance. A bit more casual than his other spots, Roy’s Beach House is located right on sandy Kuilima Cove with breathtaking views of the ocean.

One of my favorite Oahu restaurants with a view is Roy’s Beach House at Turtle Bay Resort. I go to Roy’s mainly for the views of the ocean and the resort, but the food is a great bonus. With an emphasis on local ingredients, lunch offerings include everything from burgers to salads to sushi.
