The restaurant has very friendly staff, a large rustic fireplace to warm up the mountain chill, and a selection of omelettes, fruits, and pancakes.

Assisted by its staggering view, one of the best of any Maui restaurant, veteran chef Marc McDowell has the kitchen humming to a farm-to-table variety menu. Locally sourced salads are delicious. Outside, brick ovens provide build-your-own pizzas served under cabanas (11am to 8pm).

For a meal that’ll rekindle your romance, head to Kula Lodge and Restaurant, where a stone fireplace warms a room that peers down upon the Pacific and gourmet pizzas are baked in an outdoor. Wood-fire oven; when you’re done, meander down the steps to the Curtis Wilson Cost Gallery, where Maui’s loveliest sights, from banana trees to beach parks, are rendered in dramatic oils. Diners determined to try the novelty that is crepes in Hawaii needn’t look further than La Provence in Kula; here, French dishes are offered alongside artisan baked goods that are outright scrumptious.

Kula Lodge is a great place to eat if you are heading down from an early morning at Haleakala National Park, or you’re just craving an incredible island view. The restaurant has 180-degree views of the ocean from 4,000 ft up. The first time I came here I was a bit taken aback by the fact that it reminds me of a 1940s hunting lodge (and smells a bit like one too!) I actually almost left, but I was enjoying the incredible views unobstructed views, so I decided to stay.

Built in the 1940s as a private residence, Kula Lodge & Restaurant sits at 3,200 feet (975 meters) on the Western slopes of Haleakalā amid a garden of flowers. The property offers great views of the ocean and the West Maui Mountains. It's a nice place to stop for lunch or dinner on the way back from Haleakalā National Park, Maui Wine in Ulupalakua, or for those who have made the journey from Hana around the southern part of East Maui.

This rustic Upcountry spot is the perfect place for a meal either on the way to or returning from a visit to Haleakalā National Park. Kula Lodge offers breathtaking views of the water from both the dining room and outdoor garden. We particularly enjoyed the upside-down pineapple cake.

Kula Lodge Restaurant: I love this restaurant for its brick oven pizzas and spectacular views of the island. Also stop into the Kula Marketplace store in the adjoining parking lot. One of my favorite shops for unique, locally-made products.
