Reviews Summary

Jake's is celebrated for its enjoyable brunch, delicious comfort food, and particularly its massive, shareable cakes. The restaurant offers various seating areas, including a charming courtyard, and is often praised for quick, friendly service. However, some diners have noted inconsistent food quality, issues with portion sizes for the price, and occasional service inefficiencies, particularly during busy periods.

"Jake's brunch was really enjoyable! The service was quick and friendly. The food is tasty and appealing. They have various seating areas, a small patio up front, a small area indoors and a courtyard in the back. I prefer any of those areas over a loud enclosed dining room. They have lot's of huge cakes for dessert to choose from that I saved for my next visit. Jakes can be easier to get into than other brunch spots in the area, so don't pass it up! Very well worth the visit!"

"Wow!
Four of us were hungry after touring houses during Modernism week.
Found this place with great sandwiches and salads.
Sophia took good care of us.

We saved room for dessert lucky us!
All of us were very happy.
Manager was great, stopped by a couple times.

Thank you for making our day."

Bruce Larson

"It used to be good. Now the front staff seem poorly trained and inefficient. Last night they didn’t know the menu and took forever with drinks though it wasn’t busy. The entrees were decent though skimpy for the price—three tiny stems of asparagus with my meatloaf. The worst was getting a slice of cake to go, then opening it at home to find two partial slices chucked in the box. What, it’s too hard to cut cake properly?

Atmosphere is still nice but I won’t be going back. It’s a bummer, I used to like Jake’s."

Some local favorites are: Mr. Lyons Steakhouse (swanky steak and those parker house rolls!); Workshop (very modern and very chic — but get a booth, or sit outside, so you don’t need to sit at the long communal table); Melvyn’s - a renovated and revivified rat-pack-era spot which has which is great for snazzy drinks accompanied by a pianist, followed by a fancy dinner in their dark, stylish and spacious dining room; Birba (great pizzas in a nice outdoor courtyard); mister parker’s (dim, dark and modern, Jonathan Adler style: reopened post-pandemic but now with a dressier dress code including jackets for men) and Norma’s (casual menu with a pretty outdoor terrace), both at the Parker Palm Springs; Copley’s on Palm Canyon (an old standard with a spacious courtyard and reliably good food and service); Jake’s, a casual spot with a comfortable patio, great food, and insane desserts; Cheeky’s (open for breakfast and lunch only); Le Vallauris (fancy traditional French cuisine — request the lovely outdoor courtyard). If you’re looking for an old-school New York Deli and a lean pastrami on rye, there’s Sherman’s.

It feels relaxed, fun, casual, and reliable.
