Reviews Summary

The Peddler Steakhouse is praised for its excellent steaks, particularly the custom-cut options, and a massive, fresh salad bar. Many diners rave about the attentive service and charming riverside ambiance. However, some reviews mention inconsistent food quality and slow service during peak times, with a few negative experiences regarding management and staff professionalism.

"We did not make reservations and were seated immediately in the upstairs, first-come-first-served lounge area at a corner table with a beautiful view overlooking the river. The menu options are the same as the downstairs eating area, and service is the same quality minus a “steak peddler”. As I knew what steak I wanted, that was not an issue. Waiter was helpful and polite. Their tap was not working at the time but the beer came frosty and with a cold glass.

Filet was EXCELLENT…Meat candy that melted in my mouth. Cheese bites were tasty, as well!"

Hannah White

"We made a reservation, wanted a table overlooking the water. We arrived a few minutes early and they seated us right away. Our waitress had just seated a table of 16 people and we thought I we'd have to wait a while but she was in to of her game. She had the large group plus 4 smaller tables and never missed a beat and still had time to chat. Rare find these days. Ordered an Old Fashion (good choice). Hubby had the salad bar and said it was the largest and one if the best he's ever had. Had the ribeye with a side if fried. The ribeye was cooked to perfection. Fries were typical steak fries. Our waitress visited several times and did not let the large group take away from her other customers. Loved the atmosphere and service. Will definitely be back."

Lisa Johnson

"Met a guy at a microbrew in Lexington and he recommended that we eat here. Made an online reservation, and were seated as soon as we arrived. The salad bar is one of the best I have ever seen. Our steaks were cooked exactly as we asked, and were very tender. Our server Jocelyn was super! Would definitely recommend and return."

The Culture Trip

Gatlinburg's Top Restaurants Local Tennessee Flavor

The Peddler Steakhouse has been a culinary tradition in the city ever since opening in Gatlinburg nearly 40 years ago. Based in what was the house of a local merchant (whose great grandfather founded the area’s first grocery store), the building itself was created from the remains of four old cabins. This combination of taking tradition and building it into something better also feeds into the restaurant’s food, a winning selection centered around its famed fresh steaks, cooked over Tennessee hickory charcoal, and many, many more dining delights.

Restaurants in Gatlinburg

It's not every day in the Smokies you walk past an 80-foot-high redwood tree to eat at a riverfront steak house comprising five historic log cabins. And it's probably just as unusual to have your steak brought table-side and custom cut before being sizzled over Texas hickory charcoal while you graze on hot homemade bread and items from the salad bar. Chicken, shrimp, salmon, and fresh boneless English mountain trout are also on the menu, along with desserts like hot blackberry cobbler or Peddler's version of strawberry shortcake.
