There are a number of picnic areas throughout Great Smoky National Park that allow dogs, including Chimney Tops, Metcalf Bottoms, and Greenbrier. Chimney Tops is one of the more popular picnic areas, so may be a bit much for some dogs.

Alternatively, head to "the locals' entrance" at Greenbrier about 6 miles east of downtown. Trailheads to Ramsey Cascades, Porters Creek and Grapeyard Ridge start here, and it's often less crowded than nearby areas of the park.

and glance over to the east toward the Cosby and Greenbrier areas for less crowds and equally lovely scenery – at any time of year but, like the entire area, especially in Fall.

Greenbrier Road: This scenic drive starts east of Gatlinburg and spans directly into the heart of the Smoky Mountains, with fall colors framing the river beds along the way.
