Reviews Summary

Diners rave about the delicious Cajun and seafood dishes, particularly the award-winning gumbo and generous portions. The lively atmosphere and friendly service, especially from staff like Caroline and Ian, are frequently praised. While most reviews are glowing, a few mention occasional slow service or issues with food temperature.

"Enjoyed trying a variety of Cajun food—fried alligator, gumbo, jambalaya, & crawfish and fried oyster po’ boy. (Sorry for the half-eaten food in the pictures. We were so eager to try the food that we forgot to take the “before” picture!) The restaurant was small but we were able to be seated right away going early. Very friendly service."

"I had a fantastic experience at Little Daddy’s Gumbo Bar in Galveston! I started with the alligator bites as an appetizer, and they were excellent—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. For my main dish, I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo, and it was absolutely spot on. The seasoning was perfect—rich, well-balanced, and bold without being overwhelming. It didn’t need any extra hot sauce or spices, which is rare for gumbo done right. The portion was generous, and every bite was satisfying.

What really stood out to me, though, was the service. My server, Cornell, was outstanding. He was knowledgeable about the entire menu and even shared some great insights about the location. He was attentive and friendly throughout my meal, making sure I had everything I needed without being overbearing.

All in all, this was a great dining experience. Delicious food, excellent service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back!"

"Ian our server was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with everything we needed.
The food was outstanding when we visited during happy hour on a Monday. The gumbo was rich, flavorful and packed with seafood. We sat on the patio with our dogs and Ian brought water out for them. We would be here ALOT if we lived in Galveston!
10/10 highly recommend!
The music Playlist was stellar too."

Get a taste of seriously good steam-kettle cooking in the form of cioppino, dreamy étouffée, and near-black gumbo loaded with prime rib, shrimp, sausage, oysters, and crab (the Mumbo Gumbo packs in all of the above). There’s also dope stuff like fried seafood balls, big-ass po-boys, and homemade bread pudding.

The Saltwater Grill Restaurant Galveston Houston TX Reviews

We always start with the barbecued oysters with blue cheese dressing, a spicy and elegant appetizer, before looking over the “from the kettle menu” that features such delights as Big Daddy’s Gumbo --- a dark roux stew with fresh shrimp, oysters and crab meat served in a silver bucket. But you can’t go wrong with the Texas redfish Pontchartrain topped with shrimp, crawfish and mushrooms in a brown butter sauce. There are pastas and steaks on the menu as well, but since it’s island time, stick with the seafood choices.
