Reviews Summary
The Auslander offers a German-American dining experience with a focus on traditional Bavarian cuisine. While many praise the authentic flavors, generous portions, and extensive beer selection, some diners have found the food to be inconsistent, citing issues with saltiness and preparation. The atmosphere, particularly the biergarten and outdoor seating, is often highlighted as a positive aspect, though service experiences can vary.
"Nice German restaurant with a variety of German meals. Portions are decent sized and pretty tasty. Waitstaff was pretty attentive, making everything was going well. The parking lot in the back of the restaurant seems a lot easier than trying to find parking in the front of the restaurant."

"Going to downtown Fredericksburg, having a good German meal is a necessity! The Auslander had a great feel to it, giving the full experience of an old German pub (in my opinion!). We ate on the patio at the front of the restaurant, with the benefit of a beautiful day to enjoy. Our server wasn’t overly friendly, but very efficient - our food came out under 10 minutes after ordering.
My boyfriend had the Rouladen on spatzle - he is half German and has enjoyed the cuisine for years, he felt it was pretty average but still tasty. I had the Jagerschnitzel with a side of spatzle, German potato salad, and red cabbage. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! This was my first restaurant experience with German food, I was impressed!
They provided us with a to-go cup for the beer to walk around the town - definitely try the local Altstadt if you’re a beer drinker, I had the kolsch and really enjoyed it.
Overall great experience!"

I love coming here. It was such a great experience. We'll definitely be back to try more delicious meals. This made our Fredericksburg experience wonderful ❤️"

If Auslander’s German Snack plate could talk, it might say, “Is this a grocery store or a restaurant?. ” I could have assembled this at home from generic German sausage, stiff pumpernickel bread, slices of processed cheese and packets of brown mustard. It sets a tone, a kind of “good enough for the tourists” tone that extends to assembly-line jägerschnitzel and apple strudel.
