It sets a tone, a kind of “good enough for the tourists” tone that extends to assembly-line jägerschnitzel and apple strudel.

Auslander has been a Fredericksburg favorite for over 20 years, serving up authentic German fare in a cozy beer hall. We tried the Jägerschnitzel and Rouladen—both massive and easily shareable. The schnitzel was perfectly crunchy, topped with rich gravy, while the sides—red cabbage and warm potato salad—had that comforting homemade taste.

She was very knowledgeable about the ingredients (important for our celiac daughter) and if she wasn't completely sure about our questions she went and asked!. So many amazing options, gluten free bun for the burger or sandwiches. Frier is cross contaminated but the other sides available are very good.
