Reviews Summary

Red Pony is celebrated for its exceptional service and warm, inviting ambiance, making it a local gem. While many praise the sophisticated Southern cuisine and unique dishes like shrimp and grits, some find the food to be average, suggesting a focus on appetizers and drinks. Despite occasional critiques of the menu, the overall experience, particularly for special occasions, is highly recommended by patrons who value the attentive staff and charming atmosphere.

"My husband and I had dinner at Red Pony tonight for our anniversary. We have been wanting to try it for the longest time but they rarely have times available for dinner. Now, I understand why. The food was great. Our server was attentive. The atmosphere was nice although it did get really loud when a large party came in for dinner. Luckily, we were almost done. We will definitely be back!"

"Holy wow, that was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while! I got the ribeye and my wife had the chicken entree and we both agree our meals were amazing! We arrived and they told us it was an hour wait unless we wanted to go upstairs and wait for a table near the bar. When we went upstairs there were three tables open and I’m really sure the difference between the tables we were at and the “normal” ones. All that to say, skip the wait and go upstairs if you can. The food was pricey, but it was worth it!"

"EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE! My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner here. Our server made the experience wonderful. He was very attentive and knew the menu very well. The atmosphere is elevated but not fancy. There are about 10 tables and a large bar downstairs and more dining upstairs. We sat downstairs where you can see into the kitchen. The morning dew cocktail was sooo good-- not too sweet and definitely refreshing. For appetizers, we had the hamachi crudo, grilled halloumi and pork belly biscuits. Our favorite was definitely the biscuits. We did not care for the crudo. Although the fish itself was tasty, the heavy white sauce and large sunchokes took away from the delicate flavor of the fish. The biscuits, on the other hand, were addictive. The pork belly is served separately with an apple butter sauce, which was fantastic. We never had halloumi before and wanted to try it. We would definitely have it again. It came with grilled vegetables and you can definitely taste the grilling. For the entree we split the snapper. The fish seemed slightly overcooked but we enjoyed the corn, pico de gallo, fried onions and cornbread crumbles that came with it. It was large enough to share, especially after the three appetizers. We enjoyed creme brulee and chocolate mousse for dessert. Surprisingly, we thought the creme brulee was slightly better than the chocolate mousse. This is a nice spot to celebrate a special occasion. Highly recommend."

Top 10 restaurants in Franklin and Williamson County for 2024

Mack: I love the Grateful Dead-themed cocktails, which were clever but also very good (yeah I'm tipping my hippie hand here a little). And aside from the server absolutely assailing us with about 8 minutes worth of food-explaining speech I neither asked for nor needed, this restaurant got off to an excellent start with fantastic appetizers including perfect Parisian-style gnocchi and outstanding elk meatballs with a rich Sunday gravy. Things got muddier with the mains, which had far too many elements to sort through, though the pork porterhouse and Steelhead trout underneath it all were flavorful and nicely cooked.

Good Places To Eat In Franklin. Tn (Brentwood, Gallatin: appointed, house) - Nashville - Tennessee (TN)

Great dinner out at Saffire & Red Pony, pub food at McCreary's, veggie, black bean, beef and buffalo burgers at Cheeseburger Charley's, fish tacos at Garcia's, falafel at Sue's Gyros, frozen custard at Shakey's, everything at Dumplin's, Puckett's in town has great squash casserole and cobblers, among other things, biscuits at Dotson's are awesome, family dinners at the Chophouse or Shogun, Thai heaven (for us at least) is Jasmine, get your Japanese fix at Sake, ribs at Shane's, and when you're in the mood for a HUGE feast, listen to Makupfool and head for Monell's.

Fall in Franklin TN - An Autumn Adventure

The next night, we visited perhaps Franklin’s best-known restaurant, the Red Pony, for their signature shrimp and grits. We’ve had (and love) a lot of shrimp and grits living in the south, but Red Pony’s were distinctively different with complex brown sauce instead of layers of cheese. The waiter talked us into dessert – Crème brûlée with candy cap mushrooms.

55 South is a bit less pricey and has some nice items, but the real draw is the brunch with the bloody mary bar (they pour the alcohol and mixer, you dress it up). McCreary’s is an interesting Irish pub and has some good drink specials, but neither your craft beer heaven or high end food.
