What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
H3 Ranch offers a unique Western ambiance and hearty portions, with many praising the steaks and unique sides like sausage creamed corn. However, some diners have experienced inconsistencies in food temperature and seasoning, with occasional service lapses impacting the overall dining experience.
"A very good meal at a good price. This place has a great atmosphere. Loved the look of the saddles for bar stools, the kitchen has an open Woodfire grill that you can see from the dining room. We were sat quickly. Our server was very polite and friendly, answering any of my wife's questions on menu recommendations. Our steaks were cooked perfectly."

"We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. We didn’t have a reservation but we were able to get seated straight away. The service was prompt and we quickly put in our drink orders (a mango & pineapple margarita for me and a beer for my other half). The margarita was a little sweeter than I was expecting, and didn’t seem like it had much tequila in it, but it was nice enough.
We then put in our food orders; I went for the catfish (with spinach as my side as I had seen good reviews of this) and my partner had the chicken fried steak. Food arrived quickly but my dish was extremely disappointing. The catfish had no flavour at all (even after putting lemon, salt and pepper on it) and I would say it is the worst catfish I have ever had. The spinach came with some sort of gravy/cheese sauce and I really didn’t like this either, my partner did eat it though so I think my dislike of this is more personal preference. My partners dish was great though (he said it was the best chicken fried steak he has had) and the fries were awesome (they could have used some of the seasoning on the fries in the catfish dish).
If you are just looking for a casual lunch spot, with large portions, then this place would be fine. I probably wouldn’t return though as I think there are better spots in the area. Total bill, including tax and tip, came to c$80 which we thought was reasonable."

"Great spot to grab some BBQ and truly indulge yourself in some Texas Hospitality.
Steaks & Ribs are great but my absolute favorite are the tortilla chips with both wood roasted salsa & poblanos con queso.
The attention of the staff is also great, I once had a meal removed from the bill because the waitress felt it took too long to be prepared.
Must-visit when in the stockyards!"

Steak Guide
H3 may not be the first place you think of for steak in the Stockyards, but you should think of it. There’s a vast selection from which to choose, and the open dining room employs an upbeat, hustle-bustle energy that feels more roadhouse than steakhouse. For brunch, the place is a real gem, offering left-of-center dishes like a red pepper omelette and rainbow trout and eggs.

Never ate at Lonesome Dove but for a non-steakhouse H3 Ranch in the Stockyards is solid in my book. Cool setting and the steaks are solid.
