Reviews Summary

Macy's European Coffeehouse & Bakery is celebrated for its excellent coffee and delicious, often vegetarian, breakfast and baked goods. Diners praise the cozy, hometown diner ambiance and the wide variety of coffee drinks. However, some reviewers mention that the space can be cramped and noisy during peak hours, and a few have had issues with cold coffee or perceived poor customer service.

"This wonderful place was recommended by a close friend who knows his coffee houses! It’s a great spot just off the downtown streets of Flagstaff. We ordered the breakfast sandwiches which were fluffy steamed eggs with your choice of cheese on a buttery croissant. It was flaky and melt in your mouth good! We also added the blueberry bran muffins which were very flavorful. I had a hot chai latte which was sweet and spicy. So good I drank it all with my breakfast! I usually sip it throughout the morning. We also had a hot steamed milk which was creamy and delicious!
When we arrived there were 3 tables and only 1 person in line ahead of us. By the time our food arrived the restaurant was full and there was a line of about 10 people. The staff worked hard to help everyone with their drinks and food. Everything flowed smoothly. When you’re in Flagstaff you Must make a stop to Macys European Coffeehouse and Bakery!"

"Macy's has been in Flagstaff forever. It gets very crowded here on weekends. They probably have the best coffee in town. If you have never been, you should go visit!
We had breakfast this visit which was worth going for. Keep in mind that their coffee menu is larger than their food menu."

Rob J

"Fun café! The place was busy but the line moved fast. Wide menu of coffee drinks. My flat white was rich and flavorful. They have a separate line for coffee only which was nice. We had yogurt fruit and a waffle. All were very good. We ate outside and met folks from all over."

If Hollywood fairytale screenwriters had to design an enchanted coffee shop on mainstreet, it’d probably look something like Macy’s European Coffeehouse and Bakery. This cozy little cafe, beloved for epitomizing vintage charm, has been a Flagstaff hallmark for over 40 years now. Their longevity is notable in regards to being an independently-owned small business, but especially when considering they exclusively serve vegetarian fare, which must be an indication as to how tasty the food actually is!

While coffee takes center stage, the menu also earns high praise for its simplicity and flexibility, offering most items in gluten-free or vegan options. Yogurt, granola, oatmeal, waffles, steamed eggs, a breakfast sandwich, and biscuits and gravy round out the breakfast menu, with salads and sandwiches available for lunch.

Restaurant Reviews for Flagstaff, Arizona

Native Californian Tim Macy opened his European coffeehouse in downtown Flagstaff in 1980. Macy's was the first commercial coffee roaster in Arizona. And in addition to all the java, including their tasty Macy's special with some cocoa in the mix, you'll find a variety of classic baked goods, such as pies, tarts, layer cakes, cheesecakes, brownies and cookies, and an all-vegetarian menu with an assortment of wheat-free, dairy-free and vegan options.

The Most Over & Underrated

Although Macy’s is one of the most popular and well known hotspots within the city, both for the coffee and food, I find it to be overrated. After multiple visits during various times of the year, I can attest that the setting is just too cramped and noisy (all the time!) to enjoy the food and drinks. I would never recommend getting a cup of coffee or breakfast here (both are sub par), although the lunch entrees are pretty tasty.

Alluring clients for more than 30 years with scrumptious food and flavorful espresso, this mixed and inviting foundation has great expertise in vegan cooking and espressos. Buying beans directly from ranchers, Macy’s grinds and roasts them on its premises itself, giving new and flavourful cups of java to local people and travelers the same.

When it opened in 1980, Macy’s was one of Arizona’s first coffee roasters, and four decades later it remains an independent Flagstaff institution for coffee, vegetarian fare, and community. Macy’s continues to source its own green coffee beans directly from farmers (from Kenya to Colombia to Sumatra) for roasting in-house. “Macy’s attracts students, professors, professionals, and tourists alike,” says Marquess.
