What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Del Sur Bakery is celebrated for its innovative Filipino-inspired pastries, with highlights like the longanisa croissant and turon danish receiving rave reviews for their texture and flavor. While the takeout-only model and occasional long lines are noted, the quality of the baked goods and the warm service consistently impress visitors, making it a highly recommended spot for unique culinary experiences.
"Some of the best croissant dough I’ve ever tried! Pastries were a bit too sweet, even the savories one, but their gluten is fire, literally so flaky and soft. Salted pandan matcha was also unique and delish. Please don’t underestimate their croissant!! On the other hand their ube pie had a frosting with a weird aftertaste and texture, not for us. Service was also really good, where despite the long line, the staff checked upon us and offered us tea."

"Went last Sunday and love their pasties! Highly recommend the longanisa Croissant, Pandan Basque Cake, and the Seasonal Hand Pie! Lines aren’t as hectic as when they first opened, but I still suggest getting there early since they do sell out and are only open during the later half of the week. Also no seating area."

"A love letter to pastry and home... You've never seen a box of pastries more beautiful. The best part? Whether you lean towards "the basics" like the pan au chocolat or new standards like the turon danish, you will be deeply satisfied. I waited for 50mins in line on a Thursday but had to go to work before I could actually purchase. Came back the next day at 7:15AM, waited another 50mins and finally got my box. I am tempted to wait another 50mins for a second taste of delicious pasties. It is worth the hype - come early and enjoy your pasties throughout the day. I wish this charming labor of love lots of success! The drink menu is very customizable - in the future, I hope they will have a list of suggested drink pairings (e.g. which syrups might pair with which tea/coffee). I got a Chinese matcha with oat milk and it was perfectly executed - will be back to try their house made syrups."

The Best Filipino Restaurants In Chicago - Chicago
Del Sur isn't technically a restaurant, but considering we'd gladly make a meal out of this Lincoln Square bakery's longanisa croissants and turon danishes, we've included it here. They’re pastry marvels with immaculate honeycomb structures and ASMR-ready flaky layers. But Del Sur's pastry prowess doesn’t stop at lamination—other creations like ube oatmeal cream pies and bay-leaf-infused adobo brownies are equally delicious.
Chicago Bakeries Worth The Wait
It’s a Filipino-influenced bakery and the pastries and beverage are phenomenal. It’s also nut free, if that’s important to you!. Among the items I’ve tried were the turron danish filled with caramelized banana jam and topped with vanilla flan, the oatmeal ube cream pie were brown butter oatmeal cookies with salted ube buttercream, and a pina colada muffin made with sourdough.
My Favorite Bakeries in Chicago
In addition to Cafe Yaya, I read that Au Levain Bakery & Café and Del Sur Bakery were two of the best new restaurants and bakeries in Chicago. So, I made a point of visiting both.
