But we’re not ashamed to admit that we’ve spent our evenings belting out karaoke at local favorite Lonigans or tossing a few back while learning about the history of the Wheel Bar (pictured), which opened in 1945. You can also taste the brews at Estes Park Brewery or try more than 20 types of Colorado wines at Snowy Peaks Winery and tasting room (call for hours in the offseason).

Coffee on the Rocks is less about the coffee and more about the scene—though the java holds its own. Tucked by a duck pond with the Big Thompson River flowing nearby, this spot’s patio is prime real estate for sipping and duck-watching (they sell feed for the quackers).

As the name suggests, the coffee shop on the Rocks has stunning view of the mountains, with a little pond in the backyard, where the docks float around. My toddler enjoyed chasing the docks while we were appreciating the scenery with another best cup of coffee in town. Just like Kind Coffee, this place Coffee on the Rocks is also open early from 7AM in the morning.

Beyond all of the fun dreams I have for our trip, I want to be intentional about the way I use my down time. I’m going to challenge myself to take significant breaks from social media feeds and news updates while I’m away, basically a social media detox. I’m going to focus on being in the moment out in nature and spending quality time with my family.
