Reviews Summary

Alley Twenty Six is celebrated for its exceptional craft cocktails and knowledgeable, attentive staff, creating a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. While many rave about the drinks and appetizers like pimiento cheese and caviar tater tots, some diners find the food portions small and overpriced for the flavor delivered, particularly for main courses. The pet-friendly outdoor space and creative non-alcoholic options are also notable positives.

"Simply put, you should go here. Best bartenders making the best drinks! The bartenders are so passionate about their craft which is rare. The bar is has a chill yet classy vibe. Very crisp, clean but inviting."

"Family in town with their dog meant finding restaurants with outdoor spaces, which Alley Twenty Six provides. Amazing staff took care of all four of us (three humans plus dawg), bringing Hank a bowl of water AND treats! Our food was amazing, starting with devilled eggs (slightly too spicy for us wimps but great flavor) and pimiento cheese with fried saltines and pepper jelly. WOW was that latter a success! The cheese was fabulous but the jelly lifted it to another level!
Brother and I both had the spring vegetable risotto with asparagus, green peas, mushrooms, and other veg. Perfect sized portion we completely devoured. SIL liked her chicken wings but said they could do with less sauce.
Very happy to discover this charming place -- will be coming back!"

Anne Marsh

"Can't say enough about this place. First, there staff. Seated quickly, very knowledgeable, attentive, helpful, all around fantastic.
The food is amazing. Great selection and delicious. We had a decent gathering here and had a variety of the menu which was a hit with everyone. I added pictures from my pre-drink to the festivities.
Don't pass this place up. It's eclectic, has great vibes, and an awesome staff playing up the great environment!!"

Where to Find Durham's Next-Level Nonalcoholic Beverages

Some of our favorites can be found at Alley Twenty Six, which highlights a new non-alcoholic cocktail on the menu on a rotating basis – the choice is dependent on the season and what ingredients are available. On Thursday mornings, Owner Shannon Healy and some of the other Alley bartenders hold experimental sessions where they make new syrups and tinctures and also use the time to create those unusual non-alcoholic cocktails that keep with the same quality and inventiveness of their alcoholic counterparts. This summer, they featured a “summer-at-the-beach” inspired Coconut Pineapple Shrub, which included coconut, pineapple, apple cider vinegar, lime and soda water.

Durham's Essential Restaurants

As for our bar scene, Durham is home to the only two nominated James Beard outstanding bar programs in the state of North Carolina: Alley Twenty Six and Kingfisher, craft cocktail spots located just across the street from one another on East Chapel Hill Street downtown. At Alley Twenty Six, the cocktails are the stars – especially the Mexican Herbalist or anything made with Durham Distillery Conniption Gin – but you’ll be pleased if you give the dinner menu some of your time. Kingfisher’s atmospheric basement makes for a perfect date spot to ponder the inspiration behind some of Durham’s most creative cocktails.
