"We’re been here as a date night at least 6 times and easily our #1 spot in central Iowa for a cozy romantic place to retreat for a culinary meal. Portions are perfect and their tenured staff knows the menu well. The bar offers some exceptional talent and craft cocktails and also a nice selection of not old world wines. Not better place in DSM to celebrate a special night or even a “just because” treat at the end of a hard week"

"Harbinger was an amazing experience. The staff was friendly and attentive. I never felt silly for asking any questions. The food was fantastic. We got the chef's tasting with wine pairing and it was absolutely worth the price. Reservations recommended, and expect to spend time here enjoying your party's company."

"Wow. Wow wow wow.
I’m definitely spoiled living in Austin and honestly didn’t have any expectations for DSM food but Harbinger completely blew me away.
First of all, copy and paste this in the very intense food scene and Austin and it would thrive.
I’ve eaten at A LOT of farm to table concepts (it’s my favorite cuisine TBH) and Harbinger had such a unique spin on things with Asian influence but lots of American favorites too.
I got there early for my reservation but ended up having to wait for a while. The servers were so kind, apologized multiple times and even comped me a mocktail.
I opted for a la carte so I could try a variety of dishes.
Pork Belly Bun - Absolutely delicious with sweetness and bite from green onion
Beet Dish - the beet rose, while smaller than I anticipated was absolutely bursting with flavor. What a unique combo - beets and grapes and popcorn.
Onion with oxtail - The gnocchi-type pillows were delicious as was the ju, but overall I liked this dish the least of what I tried
Pork Shank - Super tender, delicious and the combo of persimmon and pork should be done wayyyy more often
Butternut Squash - OMG. The literal best thing. The umami is insane. The salted egg yolk and the mushroom and the sauce on top - wowowow
Chocolate and sesame Gateau - DELICIOUS. Unctuous. Spectacular.
If I find myself in DSM again, will absolutely come back. Thank you for a wonderful meal and dining experience!"
