Reviews Summary

Eatery A receives high praise for its creative wood-fired pizzas and stylish ambiance, making it a local favorite for happy hour and brunch. However, some diners have noted inconsistencies in service speed and food quality, with occasional complaints about dishes arriving cold or being overly sweetened.

"I absolutely love woodfired pizzas and this place is at the top of my list for the best. I love specialty pizzas as well and let me tell you these guys do not disappoint. We had the #10 and the #5. The #10 was a Italian meat pie with hot honey. Oh my god so good. The we also had the #5 which is a gyro pizza which I love gyros and I have never seen a place make a gyro pizza. This was amazing. Defiantly will be back to try them all!!!"

"My husband and I went on a double date to Eatery A tonight, and we all absolutely loved the ambiance of the restaurant and the taste of the food. It was delicious, hot, and tasty. The decor, the different seating options (large booths, small tables, lounge type chairs), and overall vibe was stunning. We've eaten on the patio area in the summertime, and if you have a chance to eat outside, do it! It's worth it. At night, the nightlife of people walking, talking, and having fun surrounds you and adds a little extra entertainment to your dinner.

Unfortunately, tonight we were quite disappointed in the service or lack of. It took us over 2 hours in total to get our drinks, apps, and dinner. We had reservations at 6:30 and left a little after 8:45. (Thankfully, we weren't in a hurry, but still). We ordered our apps and dinner at the same time since our server was taking so long just to bring us our drinks out (15+ mins), but it still took over an hour just to get our dinner. By the end of the night, we were the last table left in the restaurant (a few people were left at the bar area), and I had to grab our own to-go boxes from the side area, and located a random waitress and asked her to please help get our ticket or waitress. Our waitress finally walked up with boxes and asked if we were ready for our bill... no apology or acknowledgment that she her taking a bit longer tonight or in general. Our food was GREAT (and surprisingly hot when it arrived), but the service lacked a LOT. Hopefully, it was just one bad night and not an ongoing issue, but I will give them another chance at some point since their pizza's were so good."

"Eatery A I used to love this place, and I was so excited to have it since I hadn’t had it in 5 years. But I will say this was such a huge disappointment. Ordered the meat balls and arancini, it came out ICE cold and very old. We decided against any of the entrees due to this reason. But decided to get a pizza, because its pizza and pizza is always good and i used to think theirs was too. The pizza was worse, Caramelized onions does not mean adding sugar for sweetness, and they should say the onions are basically candy sweet on the pizza. It was overly sweetened. Over all, i will not be coming back and this place has gone down hill. Was unable to eat ANY of the foods. I used to love this place 💔
The manager was nice, but still made us pay for the pizza, no worries. I do not recommend this place anymore. Took 10 minutes for out server to even greet us but we were willing to look past that because we were hoping the food would have out weighed the terrible service and the fact the server did not look like she even wanted to be there. It seemed like a bother she was even waiting on our table. Unfortunately that was not the case and the food was terrible."

Des Moines Is More Than Corn Fields and the State Fair — Here’s What We Love About This Midwest Capital

When Jason Simon’s Ingersoll Avenue Mediterranean-inspired bistro opened in spring 2014, many locals thought its daily 3 to 6 p.m. happy hour — during which pizzas, draft beer, and wine are half-price — would be a short-lived grand opening fête. An entire decade later, this deal has never wavered; in fact, it recently expanded to begin at 2 p.m.

Is the Des Moines restaurant scene ready for national honors?

Derek Eidson at Centro has been experimenting with handmade pastas and cured meats. Monthly dinners he curates with Formaro bring specialty dishes and menus to a group of 50, almost like opening a completely different restaurant within the Italian eatery, Formaro said. For now, though, Des Moines might want to concentrate on some of the pieces Zimmern says need to be in place before earning national recognition for the dining scene.“I think it needs a traditional restaurant culture more than one generation old, which for restaurants is 10 to 15 years,” Zimmern said. “It needs a dining populace willing to be experimented at.
