Reviews Summary

Diners consistently praise The Custer Wolf for its delicious and hearty American pub fare, with many highlighting the exceptional burgers and fish and chips. The friendly and attentive service contributes to a warm, welcoming atmosphere. While the menu might not be extensive, the quality of the dishes and the cozy ambiance make it a highly recommended spot.

"Everything about The Custer Wolf was amazing. We had the fried green beans as a starter and they were light and crisp with a very good dipping sauces. For the main courses, I had the salmon and my wife had the flatbread taco, which was the special of the day. Finally, we split a chocolate mousse and it was fantastic.

We’re from Ohio and we really wish someday to return. It was a great stop!"

Andy Kachelmeier

"Nice place! Offers inside and outside seating. Food was extremely fresh and hot. We got the Fish & Chips (comes with an amazing tartar sauce) and the Chicken Tenders with Potato Smashers. Very hefty serving sizes and well worth the money. Menu was not as big as I had hoped for, but it definitely made the decisions easier. Service was very attentive."

Kimberly Bautista

"The food was great overall! The salad dressing stood out—very good and clearly homemade. The dessert with caramelized bacon wasn’t quite to my taste, but my son really enjoyed it. My husband absolutely loved the fish and chips, especially the tartar sauce.

What truly made the experience special was the service. The staff were outstanding—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. They really make this place a wonderful one!"

Named after a legendary wolf who tormented the area in the 1920s, the restaurant is anything but scary. A local hotspot full of craft beer and fresh-made menu items, the Wolf is known for its wall of beer steins, each assigned to a regular customer. Stop in for Walleye Ceviche, added to the menu after the owners traveled to Belize, it’s a fresh South Dakota take on the popular seafood dish, the Shredded Buffalo Sandwich or their signature Bread Pudding topped with Whiskey Caramel Sauce.

We liked Maria’s Mexican for inexpensive but good Mexican, Custer Wolf for more foodie fare and a nice patio for kicking back with a beer, and Horatio’s for excellent ice cream. But you will also find pizza places, burger places, and even a super foodie place (Skogen Kitchen) all packed in and around Main Street. It is a great little town that is touristy but not completely overdone.
