What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners often praise the great beer selection and friendly atmosphere, with many enjoying the burgers and unique offerings like the Sunday buffet. However, some reviews mention that food can be overpriced for the quality, and service can occasionally be slow or inattentive. Flies have also been noted as a nuisance by some patrons.
"Set in the small mountain town of CusterSD, this brewery offers a great line of custom brewed beer. Everything from an American Lager to Amber to a chili chocolate porter. There is even a full bar with a good variety of liquor and wine.
Food was outstanding! We had the beer cheese pretzel appetizer. Then the American burger ( The Washington) comes in beef, bison, or elk. I had the bison and it was delicious! My wife had the Avocado spinach chicken wrap. The Rooster Tail Amber was so good! I would come here again and recommend it. Service was very good with lots of servers and staff buzzing about.
Note, you should park behind the restaurant not the street side. This is where the main entrance is."

"Nice large indoor/outdoor craft brewery and restaurant. Beer was really good. We only tried the hummus. It was a bit too thick and dry for our taste but we really just came for a beer.
If you are looking for Pounding Fathers Restaurant. It is upstairs inside this place . I was told it’s a steak place"

"Disappointed. Off the bat, the menu prices they show online are lower than actual by $3-$7 per entree. That is unacceptable. The atmosphere is bar and prices are high end. The saffron rice and rice pilaf were not good. The corn was fine. The asparagus and mashed potatoes were really good. The walleye and quail were ok but not great. The kriek is not very good, the apricot-peach sour was better. The server was slow, and on his phone a lot. He took my son’s sprite to refill and never returned with any more."

Is this doable? Badlands, Custer, Rushmore and Crazy Horse
You can do Needles, Iron Mountain Rd, Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore in one day if you're energetic and don't necessarily want to see one of the night time events at Mt Rushmore or Crazy Horse. The Mt Rushmore is a very patriotic event and it's all lit up - pretty cool but the world won't end if you miss it imho. The Crazy Horse one is a laser show - I've never seen that one.
Best route from Dallas area to Custer S.D. - Good Sam Community
We stayed in the Hot Springs area for a few days and hit the local sites Wind Cave, Rushmore, Crazy Horse etc before heading over to the Badlands from there up to Minute Man Missle Museum site (if by chance you go there and want to take the tour get there very early as they only allow like 30 people on the tour and it is once a day tickets are usually gone within an hour of opening. I had hoped to take the tour but we didnt roll in until around 1pm so we totally missed that but the site was still cool and on the way out up the freeway they have another site with a silo. You cant go in it but they have the lid off and covered with a dome so you could see down in it missile etc. Just out in the middle of some field, apparently there were thousands of similar sites across that part of the country. Then on to Wall Drug for a late lunch and from there we were headed up to North Dakota for the Teddy Roosevelt Badlands both North and South unit. Then circled back around to Devils Tower, and Deadwood then headed home to Denver. Took back roads almost the entire way except for a few short stretches of interstate.

Along the way, skip lunch while sampling brews at Lost Cabin, Miner Brewing, Mount Rushmore Brewing Company and more. Most of the breweries have food available via full kitchen or visiting food truck to tide you over until dinner.
