What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Larder Delicatessen & Bakery garners significant praise for its exceptional pastrami and creative use of fermentation techniques, all served in a charming, repurposed fire station. While most diners rave about the quality and unique flavors, a few find the prices to be high, and occasionally, the pastrami can be fatty.
"Probably the best Pastrami Reuben I've ever had. Every part of it from the tender thick-cut pastrami, to the crunchy sourkraut, to the rye bread...just incredible! I will definitely find excuses to make the trip up here and get my "fix". Really nice people serving you here too!"

"This is a cool place with great lunch options!
My wife and I tried out a couple of different sandwiches with fries and pickled artichoke and onion. Everything tasted great.
The sandwiches were very flavorful, the fried chicken was juicy and the pastrami (allegedly made in-house) was Smokey and soft! Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned!
The pickled onion and artichoke were also on point; although I must mention this was the first time that I’ve had pickled artichoke. The taste was deliciously green and briny, but the texture was akin to pickled tree trunk, but that might just be how artichoke is supposed to be, idk.
That said, the place is pretty expensive, with the pastrami coming in at an outrageous $17 and the fries alone costing $8.50. Money well spent, but lots of it, to be sure."

"This is an awesome shop for locals and for friends and family from outside of Cleveland.
Everything is made from scratch and their pastrami sandwich is amazing. Their coleslaw was light and fresh (not mayo based but oil/vinaigrette based). It has lots of ingredients that seemed random but we're actually perfect together. Like strawberries, pistachios, and other great herbs. The fries are a generous portion and well made.
I highly recommend coming here. The staff was super friendly and helped us decide which sides to get."

This deli-bakery boosts their great sandwiches and pastries by using koji. The Japanese fungus can speed up the fermentation and curing process, fast-forwarding cuts into charcuterie fixings. While Cleveland's cuisine-focused and fine dining restaurants might whisk your off to distant lands or seat you in the lap of luxury, Larder Delicatessen & Bakery is one of the city's best restaurants that feels very Cleveland. The Best Restaurants to Take Out-of-Towners to in Cleveland | Cleveland
Much like many others on this list, Larder is in that transition phase from relatively new kid on the block to well established staple. When it opened in 2019, it took the Cleveland food scene by storm, with Chef Jeremy Umansky and partner Kenny Scott’s koji techniques and modern spin on traditional Jewish delicatessen food. Along with Umansky’s wife Allie La Valle-Umansky, who knocks the bakery offerings out of the park, the trio consistently serve up not just the best deli food in Cleveland, but arguably some the best food around regardless of style.
Local foodies, notables make their picks for 2021
One of the best things about managing BOP STOP is that I work one block away from the most amazing deli, Larder. I’m one who loves to try something new every time I go out to eat, and Larder’s menu changes daily based upon which fresh ingredients are available, meaning I never run out of options. Their approach of creating modern dishes infused and influenced by classic Jewish deli styles is uniquely Cleveland.
10 best bakeries in Northeast Ohio for Mother's Day
This Ohio City shop might best be known for its savory deli fare, but it’s the bakery side of the business that demands the most attention. Breads like glossy braided challah, slightly sour rye, and airy buttermilk loaves are stunning, but so are sweet pastries like black and white cookies, chocolate babka, and fruit-filled rugelach. But the best items might be savory treats like potato knishes and hand pies.

Chef Jeremy Umansky has a vision and in one word, it’s “fermentation.” His obsession with fermentation has resulted in Larder, an old-fashioned Jewish deli with a modern twist. Sure, you can ask the four-time James Beard Award nominee about molds and fermentation, but in the meantime, sink your teeth into some of the best pastrami sandwich, sauerkraut, pickles, and fried chicken you’ll find anywhere.
Adventures in dining Cleveland style
In addition to fish fries this time of year, I’m usually all about pancake breakfasts in March, but I’ve only been to one pancake breakfast so far this year. However, I attended a lovely brunch at the Cleveland Metroparks yesterday. I follow the Metroparks on Facebook in addition to getting their email newsletter and have attended several of their cooking classes in the past.
