Taken seriously” is the motto for Sacred Beast, the new modern diner at 15th and Vine streets in Over-the-Rhine, helmed by chef Jeremy Lieb, most recently of the Boca Group, and his wife Bridget. The menu is a collection of Lieb’s favorite things, which run the gamut from literally the best French-style omelet in town — fluffy, soft and full of goat cheese and piquillo peppers — to a “Diner Breakfast” with scrambled eggs, maple-glazed pork belly and ricotta pancakes and a double or triple burger with Dijonnaise, onions, pickles and American cheese on a freshly made Blue Oven bun. Jeremy and Bridget Lieb have turned what was supposed to be a late-night diner for the service industry into a true family restaurant where the vibe is always welcoming and the food is every bit as comforting as a favorite neighborhood restaurant should be. Oh, and the fact that both members of this dynamic duo worked at the Maisonette means this isn't your typical everyday diner food, either. Sacred Beast knows what it is and what it's doing, whether it's cooking up a perfect burger, the best matzo ball soup in town or an unforgettable take on Parisian-style gnocchi.

I figured, If I don’t have the money now, I sure won’t have the time to pay it later,” says Jeremy Lieb, cofounder (with his wife, Bridget) of Over-the-Rhine’s Sacred Beast. “So we laid off 42 people and went to work.” The Liebs and their two children created Beast Mart during the height of the pandemic, a makeshift bodega selling supplies like toothpaste and toilet paper for curbside pickup, alongside meal kits. They also led the charge on outdoor dining, closing 15th Street at Vine, which the city eventually made permanent with its “streateries” initiative.

Also a great dinner option, I actually visited Sacred Beast for brunch on my last morning. I’d already been on a coffee and pastry exploration extravaganza (more on that below), but I didn’t let that stop me from overindulging for brunch. I knew I needed protein with my carbs, so I paired the savory corned beef hash and poached eggs with the fluffy sweet lemon ricotta pancakes.

Despite some minor hitches, my experience at Sacred Beast Diner OTR for brunch was largely positive. The place can be crowded and a bit loud, but it all adds to the bustling atmosphere of this cool brunch spot in downtown Cincinnati. The service was generally good, with our server being knowledgeable and ready with recommendations.

It’s past time for me to share how much I love and appreciate Sacred Beast!. The food is absolutely excellent with many gluten free options and really great drinks. The food and atmosphere leave a lasting impact in their own right, but the times we’ve brought our small child in, we have felt SO welcome and cared for.
