Reviews Summary

Leah & Louise is celebrated for its exceptional service and phenomenal, flavorful Southern-inspired dishes, creating a unique and satisfying dining experience. While many rave about signature items like the oxtail and cabbage, some find certain dishes lack flavor or are too rich. The cozy atmosphere and creative cocktails also receive high praise, though reservations are a must.

"We had a good time at Leah & Louise, with excellent service from Aja (sorry if I spelled your name wrong.) we loved the cornmeal brioche, a revelation, and the oxtail was very good too. The mussels were tasty but the vinegar was a bit strong for delicate mussels in my opinion. I especially enjoyed a mocktail they made for me with the spiced hibiscus syrup."

Isabella Goldman

"Absolutely wonderful meal and even better service! I will continue to say that Camp NorthEnd is wildly underrated, and Leah & Louise proves my point. This spot was incredible. We had the Oxtail and Grits, which my partner almost wasn't going to let me try because it was that good. I had a micro green salad, Fried Hot Oysters on toast, I don't remember the actual name of these two dishes. However, just know they were both delicious. The salad was perfectly seasoned, and the texture of the greens were the right amount of crunchy. The fried oysters were definitely the star, though. The bread was buttered and fluffy, pairing to the nicely battered oysters. The hot sauce on them was smokey yet had a nice spice that was running you to find water. The service was impeccable, and everyone was so friendly. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation as the space is small yet cozy."

Emily

"A nice place in Camp North. Both inside and outside tables are available. Not many tables though, so reservations are highly recommended.
Frog legs are the most impressive one. It’s fried and carefully flavored. Mussels are not super fresh, but the bread is fluffy and soft. Catfish (as entree) is good as well. Appetizers are more of the same size as entree.
We ordered drinks but nobody brought them to the table. We ended up finishing most of the food so had to cancel them."

These 10 Black-Owned Restaurants Are Shaking up Charlotte’s Food Scene

If you know anything about Charlotte’s buzzing culinary culture, then you’ve likely heard of James Beard nominee chef Greg Collier and his wife and business partner, Subrina, who moved to the area in 2012 and opened now-closed brunch spot The Yolk. (The couple plans to open a new incarnation in the South End neighborhood in 2022.) Last year, the couple debuted their new modern-day juke joint, Leah & Louise, in the city’s creative hub, Camp North End. The restaurant pays homage to Collier’s Memphis roots and the flavors of the African diaspora with dishes such as oxtail dumplings, Leah’s cabbage (named for his late sister), and Arthur Lou pie, made with Tang custard, oat crust, floral meringue, and fresh fruit.

10 Best Restaurants in Charlotte for a Top-Notch Meal

With lots of accolades on his resume already, chef Greg Collier turned to his roots with Leah & Louise. Here he’s serving up the Soul Food inspired by the foods back home in Memphis, like chips made from chicken skins and smoked rabbit with grits. Collier, along with his wife and partner in the restaurant Subrina Collier, infused the place with the feel of an old juke joint, with old window frames up behind the pass-through, a wall of wood pallets, mismatched furniture and a big, long table smack in the center ready for the next celebration.

Best Restaurants In Charlotte, North Carolina

Developing a menu of “modern interpretations of Southern classics” is almost a Catch-22; classics are classics for a reason, yet reinvention is often necessary to make a dish feel new and different. James Beard semifinalist chef Greg Collier and his wife and business partner, Subrina Collier, however, have managed to solve this riddle at Leah & Louise. Billed as a juke joint with ties to the Mississippi River Valley foodways, the restaurant introduces its customers to menu items that combine the familiar in order to create the nuance of taste.

Leah and Louise, a black-owned business, interprets classics southern dishes in a refined and phenomenal way, thanks to James Beard-nominated Chef Greg Collier and business partner and wife Subrina.
