This former house of worship, which sits on the corner of Fifth and Church Street, is now a full-service restaurant that serves brunch Friday through Sunday. From the sweet souffle pancakes to the Holy $h!. t breakfast (fried chicken, eggs, bacon, house-made donuts, biscuits, jam, choice of a mimosa or Bloody Mary) and the okonomiyaki cabbage pancake, the menu is a harmonious union of classic, Southern and Asian influences.

Church and Union will be serving an Easter brunch buffet from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and dinner from 5-10 p.m. Brunch will include glazed ham, roasted tenderloin carving station and an oyster bar, as well as traditional Southern breakfast fare including sausage links, biscuits and sausage gravy, grits, pastries and more. Dinner will feature similar mains, as well as copper penny glazed carrots, deviled eggs, orzo salad, peanut butter mouse tarots, a variety of cakes, cookies and more.

I've never known someone who has been to brunch at Church & Union who didn't rave about it. Their pancake option is a little unconventional but if you're willing to try it you won't regret it!. The dish is called "okonomiyaki" It's a cabbage pancake, sunny egg, braised bacon, sriracha aioli, and yakiniku sauce.

Church and Union had such a fun swanky atmosphere with a great lit up bar. Unfortunately, blinding lights from cars in the windows kept blinding me but still good energy.

We recently had a fabulous brunch for New Year's at Church & Union. And, if the name is familiar, it is the same restaurant you may have visited in Charleston. It opened last year as a rebranding of 5 Church in Charlotte at the corner of 5th and Church Streets.
