There isn’t another place in Charlotte like Barrington’s Restaurant, an upscale fine-dining establishment that opened just 15 years ago in South Park’s Foxcroft neighborhood. A little pocket of a restaurant, Barrington’s was the first of restaurateur Bruce Moffett’s venture and remains the most beloved amongst Charlotteans for its rustic New American cuisine and intimate, bistro-style atmosphere. The menu boasts intricate and elegant dishes like the Hudson Valley foie gras, which features locally sourced fig jam and prosciutto, and sage rubbed quail, which uses seasonal pickled cherries and roasted turnips.

One of Charlotte’s finest restaurants, Barrington’s is 2009 James Beard Award semi-finalist Bruce Moffett’s flagship restaurant. Open since 2000, local ingredients are found throughout the seasonal menu and the personally selected wine list changes to emphasize each new menu. The restaurant has been named “Tops for Food in Charlotte” by ZAGAT’s Guide every year since 2003, was named one of the top 11 restaurants in the country by AOL, received 4 out of 4 stars in the Charlotte Observer and ranked in the top three restaurants in Charlotte by Charlotte magazine in 2016.

In a small shopping center near South Park Mall you'll find this dynamic American bistro that's tiny size (it seats under 50) and smartly appointed dining room make for a cozy yet elegant night out. Owner-chef Bruce Moffett privileges local and organic ingredients, and he has earned a sterling reputation in Charlotte's culinary circles thanks to well-conceived dishes like organic chicken with creamy mashed potatoes, herb-rubbed veal with potato-bacon dumpling, and pancetta-wrapped rabbit tenderloin. You’ll often spot Charlotte’s old money at Barrington’s, and not because the restaurant is old-fashioned. Here, you’ll find the familiarity of a corner pub with a menu that shows serious sophistication, something regulars have discovered and returned for since the restaurant opened in 2000. Chef and owner Bruce Moffett’s first concept, Barrington’s has a New England-inspired interior, with sea-evoking blues and photographs from Barrington, Rhode Island, snapped by Moffett’s wife, Katrina.

This Charlotte mainstay, which just celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2015, serves up seasonal, local dishes like a cornmeal-encrusted North Carolina flounder with local Anson Mills Creamy grits, pickled shrimp, chilled pea salad and a red pepper broth. Though the small, 45-seat restaurant is typically closed on Sundays, it will be open for a special, chef-inspired, five-course, prix-fixe menu on Valentine’s Day. The $75 meal begins with a Champagne toast to the special evening.

Barrington’s isn’t the kind of place trying to dazzle you with DJs or tableside presentations—here, it’s just about serving some of the best dishes in the city. The original restaurant from chef Bruce Moffett, Barrington’s has been serving quietly excellent plates of handmade gnocchi and perfectly cooked steaks for over 20 years. It’s small, it’s always packed, and if you want a table, you should plan on making a reservation at least a week ahead.
