Hands down my favorite restaurant for any occasion in Charleston (and possible the world), Zero George is the pinnacle of romance in my opinion. When the weather is nice, there’s nothing I love more than dining al fresco in their courtyard, which feels like a secret hideaway right in the middle of the city. Chef Vinson is a wizard in the kitchen (seriously, I think he graduated from Hogwarts’ Culinary program), and everything I’ve ever eaten there has blown me away.

A 1739 map shows 185 East Bay Street to be the site of Charleston’s original Customs House. Over the next 150 years, the original Customs House building underwent various changes until being substantially damaged in the earthquake of 1887. In December 1989, the present-day building was purchased by the Parsell Family and the project began to reinstate the site to a destination of importance and prestige as it was in the days of the old Custom House.

It's designed with high attention to detail and is somewhat of a culinary theater for intrepid diners. Most tables sit in the cozy, contemporary dining room, but if the weather allows, I recommend the charmingly-lit courtyard.

This was our second choice of where to stay in Charleston, but is a popular spot with only sixteen guest suites so make sure to make your reservations early!. Over the years this hotel has expanded a bit with adjacent buildings, but from the outside, you could easily miss it walking in the neighborhood.
