Reviews Summary

82 Queen is celebrated for its charming historic setting and upscale Southern cuisine, with the she crab soup and shrimp & grits frequently highlighted as must-try dishes. Diners often praise the beautiful courtyard ambiance and attentive service, making it a favorite for special occasions and a quintessential Charleston experience. However, some reviews note inconsistencies in food quality or service, with certain dishes like jambalaya receiving less favorable feedback.

"We went in Sunday early evening for dinner and wisely chose the outdoor courtyard. What a lovely atmosphere. Outstanding service (thank you, Kyla!). In addition to the entrees shown, we also had she crab soup and an order of calamari to share. Entrees were fantastic and desserts were to die for. I can not get that bread pudding out of my mind. If you’re visiting, you should consider this restaurant for a real Charleston experience."

Jana Clift

"Beautiful and historic restaurant. Very elegant. Insist on a table in the outside garden. It is the best place to sit.
The three staff at the hostess stand were not at all friendly. None of them smiled or made us feel welcome.

The food was not quite as good as we
remembered. The Chef may be a bit
off his game. Service was decent
but, didn't match the prices.
The Jambalaya was dry and needed a considerable amount of the signature "82 Queen hot sauce" for flavor. I would not recommend it. The Crab cakes however, were very good!
We come to Charleston several times each year and there are PLENTY of excellent restaurants from which to choose. Sadly, this is no longer on the list."

Dana Smith

"82 Queen is a charming spot in Charleston with a beautiful courtyard and historic vibe that makes for a memorable dining experience. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with fried chicken, and it was absolutely delicious—crispy, flavorful chicken paired perfectly with buttery, flaky biscuits and rich, savory gravy. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere felt relaxed yet upscale. A must-visit if you're looking for classic Southern comfort food in a stunning setting."

The 19 Most Important Restaurants in Charleston

If you are looking for old-school Charleston, this is ground zero, with its 11 galleries for seating (you’ll do none better than the courtyard if it’s not raining), Sunday brunch buffet, and plenty of tourists. The real standout, though, is the she crab soup; grab a bowl with a crisp glass of white wine while you’re seated in the shade of a palm as a salty breeze from the harbor wafts past your table -- you'll see why it's has been a Charleston mainstay for more than a century.

One dinner and one lunch in Charleston - suggestions?

If you have nice weather, you might enjoy outside courtyard dining; some of the restaurants where we enjoyed this (& the food!)have been: Charleston Place Hotel (sorry, don't remember the name of the restaurant, but we had lunch there), Blossom Cafe (lunch), 82 Queen (we love this place; some of the items on the menu are a more low country cuisine, but you do have choices); Peninula Grill - we had dinner here.
