Led by celebrated chef John Newman, Newmans at 988 offers guests a delightful array of French-Italian inspired dishes, served up in sophisticated surroundings. Highlights of the menu include the crispy crab cakes, lobster ravioli with hazelnuts and marsala sauce, as well as the chicken marsala pasta. Alternatively, opt for the chef’s ever-changing prix fixe menu.

I enjoy occasions in fine dining when they present themselves, and this was definitely an amazing experience in fine dining. I loved the ambience, the service, the wine selection, and of course, the food. Sporting a fusion of French and Italian cuisine,Newman's at 988 had a grand selection including a prix fixé menu. I went for the individual choices and had a four course meal(foie gras pasta, cream of chicken soup, prawn scampi, and a crème brûlée with half a bottle of a wonderful Moscato d'asti).I plan on enjoying at least one more meal with them before I leave the area next week!

And if your travel plans don't include a Tuesday stay over you can still enjoy natural local foods at many of our Cannon Beach restaurants. The Farmers Market has formed a restaurant collective that purchase directly from CBFM's vendors each Tuesday. Located right on the main street in Cannon Beach just a couple of blocks from the ocean in a former residence, the restaurant only has 10 tables and accommodates 24 – 30 people. We were very lucky to be part of that elite group.

For our first dinner in Cannon Beach we walked a short distance to Newmans at 988. The restaurant features French/Italian cuisine and has recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Chef and owner John Newman is known as an “Oregon Culinary Rock Star” and has an impressive resume.

I must have driven by Newmans 988 in Cannon Beach more than 200 times during my visits to the Oregon Coast. It’s so easy when you are at the coast to hit the food staples, of the crab shacks and long-time restaurants like Mo’s.
