What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
This unique hardware store turned public house offers a fun atmosphere and highly praised seafood dishes, particularly the halibut burger and fish and chips. While the novelty of the setting is a major draw, some diners find the food to be overly greasy and overpriced for the quality. Service can also be inconsistent, with some experiencing attentiveness and others feeling rushed or ignored.
"We stopped here for an afternoon snack of chips and salsa. The chips and beverages were fine, but the salsa was odd--mostly onions and peppers, with very little tomato. This is truly a combination hardware store and cafe, so the atmosphere was interesting! There are just a few tables and most are large, so be prepared to share a table. Service was okay--we had to ask the cashier for our check, even though the place was hardly busy mid-afternoon."

"For all the hype that I heard about this place, I was disappointed in what we got. The food was bland and really oily. We tried the calamari and fish and chips; neither dish had much seasoning (if any) and the breading around the fish felt almost as thick as the fish itself! Staff seemed rushed and uninterested in the work, and we were largely ignored throughout our time. The location/style of the restaurant is unique and pretty cool, but unless you need some actual hardware I’d look elsewhere for food."

"As with all resort eateries they are overpriced and underwhelming and typically serve tiny portions at big prices.
Screw and Brew is actually a hardware store which our friends who live in or have second homes in Cannon Beach actually use quite a lot. It is also a restaurant which has a diverse menu and serves big portions, but still at the big prices but compared to the other eateries its the place to go if you want to eat in the sun on a picnic table in a parking lot ... hot bright dog friendly ... its very casual and summery feeling. Wait staff was attentive and drinks were delivered quickly and food was brought out with minimal wait time. The problem was that everything was fried and dripping in oil .. fried fish was nearly 3x the portion we received at Doogers and super fresh meat texture but the breading was super saturated on oil ... so much that after one piece we removed the breading from the other two pieces and had to wrap them in napkins before eating, buffalo chicken sandwich was haauuge and good but again dripping in oil, calamari was inedible it was so greasy .. there was literally 1/8 of standing fryer oil in the bottom of the bowl they were served in, reuban sandwiches bread was saturated in oil ... corn chowder wasnot very good .. really floury... beers and ciders on tap were good and sodas were typical pepsi products. All in all, the 8 of us enjoyed each other but collectively we all took a year off our lives but eating this $250 dinner.
RECOMMENDED with some reservation"

Best Restaurants in Cannon Beach, Oregon
Screw and Brew” is the informal name of the Cannon Beach Hardware and Public House, because it’s the only place in town (in the state?) where you can purchase drywall, a new drill, and a sandwich with a pint of local beer. It’s one part hardware store, one part pub. And the metaphorical cherry on top?.
Cannon Beach, OR Family Travel Guide
A few honorable mentions that we haven’t tried, but will try in the future due to good reviews – EVOO (looks less kid-friendly, but great for foodies), Public Coast Brewing, Castaways (Cajun cuisine. Closed Monday and Tuesday), MacGregor’s Whiskey Bar (Breakfast and lunch until 3pm, then it’s a bar and bar food. Highly rated clam chowder, cocktails, and breakfast. Closed Tuesdays), Cannon Beach Hardware and Public House (hardware store with a little bar serving up good ole American bar food).

One part hardware store, one part restaurant, grab your pup, and head to Cannon Beach Hardware and Public House for a unique dining experience unlike any other. While it’s doubtful your Beachcomber vacation rental will require any of their primary inventory, they have a fun line of merch you can check out while you wait for your meal to arrive. Try a Willapa Bay oyster shooter or some halibut ceviche to start, followed by the Ecola burger with Tillamook cheddar from right up the road.

Cannon Beach Restaurants We Recommend!
It sounds so innocent, and it really IS a hardware store but the secret/not so secret is this popular hangout is also a Cannon Beach restaurant with some of the best food in town!. Obviously casual (it’s nicknamed the Screw & Brew), this Midtown bar/shop/stop has a little parking out front, but hopefully you’ll be on foot before you imbibe. A strong menu of sandwich staples (and fish n’ chips of course) will fuel up your afternoons on the beach.
