Sam's General Store is a cute little cafe that shares space with the Brannan Cottage Inn. The store is an ideal breakfast spot where parents can grab a morning coffee and sit outside while the kids enjoy a pastry or breakfast sandwich. The store and inn are located in a historic cottage original to the town of Calistoga (another one still standing is over by the Sharpsteen Museum), presenting a great chance to learn a little local history over breakfast.

If you’re visiting Napa Valley for the first time, I highly recommend checking out Sam’s General Store!. For early birds who like to hit the ground running, they’ve got great coffee, pastry, and other quick takeaway bites, but if you like to take things slow and have a little more time to spare, you need to try their picnic lunch!. Each custom picnic basket comes with sandwiches or salads, chips, and a little something sweet!

It’s almost time to head home, but before you leave, grab a pastry and coffee from Sam’s General Store then walk over to Picayune Cellars for one last wine tasting before hitting the road. Or, even better, plan ahead to enjoy a rejuvenating late morning spa treatment at Dr. Wilkinson’s before bidding Calistoga, and the lovely Napa Valley, adieu.

We were so thrilled to find this new cafe on our last visit to Calistoga!. Sam’s General Store has tons of outdoor seating on their wrap-around porch and lawn, including spots next to a fire. We grabbed avocado toast and coffee here, but they also serve mixed salads, quiche, sandwiches and other tasty goodies.

We picked up a picnic basket at Sam’s General Store for our day of wine tasting. We ordered it in advance, so it was simple to pick up our basket right before meeting our driver. You return the basket at the end of the day, but the Sam’s General Store wine glasses are yours to keep.
