As for the hotel’s location: we found it was pleasant to be situated “in town,” on the main Lincoln Ave drag, because we could pop out to the grocery two blocks away (Cal Mart, where, the first night we got in, we procured a bottle of decent wine to enjoy in our room); dine; and go wine-tasting. Some of our favorite tasting experiences of the entire trip were not at vineyards but at two of the tasting rooms walkable from the hotel!. It’s also charming to stroll up and down the strip with coffee in hand, pausing to peek in the boutique windows and walking the quirky “stone maze,” which is oddly situated on the side of the main through-fare with minimal context.

Cal Mart lies at the top of the Napa Valley in Calistoga and has served as one of Napa Valley’s finest grocery stores since it was opened by Bill Shaw in 1968. Located in the heart of downtown Calistoga, the family-owned, independent market provides shoppers with various grocery items, specialty/gourmet, and natural/organic offerings, carrying many foods and amenities for different lifestyle choices. The state-of-the-art deli and hot food service offers a gourmet selection of meats and cheeses for purchase or fresh for sandwiches, as well as a hot food service department with daily specials such as ribs, chicken, and Mexican fare.

Make your first stop at Cal-Mart, where you can pick up provisions and gourmet groceries during your stay. If you brought the kids along, Copperfield’s Books has a nice selection of children’s games and books. For all your picnic and BBQ supply needs, Silverado Ace Hardware is a great stop.

Cal Mart is a full-service grocery store, right in Calistoga. What this means is that you have a perfect place to pick-up all you need for a Napa Valley picnic!. Check out their fresh produce, gourmet cheese selection, and specialty foods (including international options).

Cal Mart // We were starving and in a rush, one day and Cottage Grove Inn recommended Cal Mart to us. It was such a great decision!. We custom made sandwiches at the counter and picked up some chips, waters, and Gatorade, as well.

So, maybe this is the year you skip cooking and dine outdoors at one of Calistoga’s fine restaurants, or grab goodies from bakeries or Cal Mart so you can enjoy a scrumptious holiday dinner at home.

I realise that visiting a grocery store was probably not what you expected when it came to what to do in Calistoga – but the Calmart is a large fabulous grocery shop on the main road in Calistoga.
