Reviews Summary
Leunig's Bistro offers a charming French bistro atmosphere and some standout dishes like their popular Duck Poutine and flavorful chicken fingers. Many diners appreciate the vintage decor and the lively Church Street Marketplace location, with some praising the wine pairings and unique menu items. However, some reviews mention inconsistent service, with reports of slow attention from staff, and a few negative comments about specific dishes like the onion soup or the portion size of oysters. The close proximity of tables is also noted as a minor drawback for some.
"We visited Leunig’s to celebrate being newly married, and it was truly an unforgettable experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like family. The manager herself took care of us, and her warmth, kindness, and attention to detail went above and beyond anything we expected.
We were welcomed with a champagne toast upon being seated such a beautiful touch to start our evening. The Beef Tartare appetizer was absolutely mouthwatering, setting the tone for the rest of the meal. I had the steak, my husband had the pork chop, and both dishes were cooked to perfection, rich, flavorful, and beautifully plated.
The bartender recommended a wine that paired perfectly with our meals, it was pure gold. And just when we thought the evening couldn’t get better, we were surprised with a complimentary dessert that was truly chef’s kiss.
Our hearts (and stomachs!) were full. We felt genuinely celebrated, and it meant the world to us. Leunig’s isn’t just a restaurant, it’s an experience filled with joy, care, and culinary excellence. We are so grateful for the memory and will absolutely be back. Highly, highly recommend!"

"First time dining here. Made a reservation online just in case it was busy. Went just before noon time and it was starting to get busy. We ordered the calamari fritti ($16) for our appetizer. It was good, crispy and good portion serving. I wish they would give you more or extra of the garlic chili aioli. For our main meal, we ordered the black river angus. I had one with fried egg, extra $1.50 for Swiss cheese and $2.50 for the fried egg. Good size burger and tasty. My only issue was the amount of fries. If we’re spending $18 for a burger, I think we deserve more fries! They have extensive choice of wine and other beverages (a whole book just for drinks!). The appetizer came out quick but it took a while for our meal to come out. I would recommend making an online reservation if you’re planning on dining during the busy hours. Our server was good. Overall good experience."

"Upon arrival, the host promptly sat us at a table. The tables were very close to each other. Barely any wiggle room.
We were there for Monday lunch. There was only 1 waiter and 1 bartender. We waited A WHILE before the waiter came to take our order. All we had were appetizers and kids meal so it came out fast because I felt other tables waited long for food as well.
Despite the wait, the food was actually good. We had lobster with salad, sliders, oysters and chicken tenders/fries(kid’s). All are flavorful and tender.
They breaded the lobster which was pleasantly good with lemons (like calamari). Oysters were cooked with garlic flavor. Great portion of chicken tenders, we all had some because they were really good.
Overall a busy restaurant at downtown area. Great food if you don’t mind to wait."

Eating Out In Burlington Vermont: The Best Restaurants
Building upon its initial status as Church Street’s premiere coffee shop and café back in 1980, popular with artists, hipsters and business professionals of the day, Leunig’s Bistro has gradually evolved into one of the finest eateries in Burlington. The jaunty, Parisian feel of the café is detectable in the current bistro set-up, offering a true bohemian vibe whilst promising the height of professional, efficient customer service. Begin with a Canadian favourite, poutine, consisting of French fries topped with cheese curds and smothered in duck gravy, before lightening things up with the sophisticated and magnificent pan-seared cod crusted with roasted tomatoes and Kalamata olives, sprinkled with house-made Maple Brook ricotta and served with caper and lemon gnocchi, sautéed baby spinach, wild mushrooms, roasted aubergine and broccolini with fennel pollen and honey broth.
