What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Dakzen is celebrated for its authentic and flavorful Thai street noodles, with generous portions and reasonable prices. Diners rave about signature dishes like Khao Soi and Ba Mee Moo Dang, as well as the inviting atmosphere and quick service. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few minor criticisms include inconsistent texture in some meat dishes and occasional blandness that may require added condiments.
"Local humble Thai restaurant in Davis Square that won’t disappoint! Good food, good vibes, good menu. On the cheap side, $12.95 on average per main dish. Portion is very reasonable for price; cheap meal = nothing too crazy! You’ll leave comfortable, maybe order a little more than one dish if you’re VERY hungry. Great quality food, loved the tomato sauce chicken wings as appetizers, though that was on the expensive side: $8.95 for 5 chicken wings. To be fair they were delicious! I got Khao Soi noodle soup, very good, it has coconut and curry-creamy base. Friend got Tom Yum soup, the rice vermicelli is very very thin, not like the Vietnamese ones. Would come here again for a cute lunch and try a new thing on the menu."

"This is a pretty location with nice, attentive staff and a good atmosphere.
I got the khao-moo-dang, which consists of 3 different types of pork. The bbq red pork and the sweet sausage were very average, and the crispy pork belly was often too hard if not completely dry. All 3 meats were definitely reheated as they did not taste fresh. It tasted fine, I just expected more given the positive reviews of this place. Pictured second is the pad thai with chicken.
I will definitely go back in the future to try something else!"

"We first visited Dakzen in 2018 when they had just opened, and this is our first time returning since moving back to Boston. The food is still outstanding and did not disappoint. Their Gui Chai Tod is also quite tasty compared to other Thai restaurants. Overall experience with service: 10 out of 10."

The 14 Best Restaurants In Somerville - Boston
On the weekends, Dakzen has a longer line than the Dunkin’ near your office at 8:55am on a Monday. Deservedly so, because it’s the best spot in the neighborhood for Thai food before heading to some speakeasy in Davis Square. The line moves fast, though, and so does service once you’re inside.

A tour of Cambridge’s Thai food scene
If you take a short walk or a T ride even further north to Davis Square at the edge of Cambridge, you’d come across Dakzen, which is technically not in Cambridge — but an inch away in Somerville. It is too good not to mention though, and before I ate there, I constantly heard my two other Thai-born-and-raised class of 2023 buddies rave about its authentic dishes. For a price as low as $8.95, you can get “a homely pad kaprao ผัดกะเพรา that tastes like your mom’s cooking,” a classic, stir-fried meat and holy basil dish with garlic and chili.
5 Takeout Favorites From Eater Boston
A post shared by DAKZEN (@dakzens) on Jun 1, 2020 at 10:15am PDT. Dakzen is one of Blumenthal's favorite Thai restaurants in "Boston’s increasingly excellent Thai food scene." She writes:. "Every dish is a hit, especially the khao soi — one of the best in town, but these days I find myself most frequently ordering the ba mee moo dang, which includes so many different components: barbecue pork, crispy pork belly, pork and shrimp dumplings, noodles, and more. And a lime iced tea on the side, always.
Boston's Best Noodle Dishes
It’s all about the interplay of tastes in this Northern Thai curry noodle soup: Sour-bitter mustard greens, pungent fresh red onions, and an acidic squeeze of lime pop against a sweet, mildly spicy broth. The richness of your choice of protein complements the rest. (Our favorite, ultra-crispy pork belly, is nontraditional but so tasty; chicken is the more classic pick.) Egg noodles prepared two ways—boiled and served in the soup, and a crispy fried bundle as garnish—bring it all together.
