Reviews Summary

Bar Vlaha is lauded for its authentic Vlach Greek cuisine and charming atmosphere, with many praising unique dishes like frog legs and crispy oyster mushrooms. Diners often highlight generous portions and friendly service, though a few have noted occasional issues with food temperature or found some dishes to be less authentic than expected.

"A solid experience with a home-cooked feel and simple delicious decisions that appealed to everyone. Our favorites included the spice feta spread, the pork and fennel sausages (kids especially loved this one), the stewed wild boar (super flavorful spices), and the grilled trout. Our server made great suggestions and made sure our meal was well balanced. Only criticism was that the food was a little cool when it was brought to the table in some cases, which surprised me since the grill is right there and the place wasn’t exceptionally busy. But otherwise this was excellent."

"We love @krasi so of course we had to try the sister restaurant at boogie Brookline. The high ceiling and open kitchen give a laid back vibe. And the service is reasonably fast.
We got the trio of dips $18: the tzatziki is creamy and cool, the kopanisti tangy with a slight bite, and the melitzanosalata, rich with smoky eggplant, was my personal favorite. These were served alongside their signature sourdough, which is wonderfully chewy and abundantly sour, complementing the dips perfectly.
We felt the need to try the Greek yogurt $10, which was topped with honey, walnuts, and kiwi, adding a lovely mix of textures and an extra layer of flavor. But i don’t even enjoy the dry plain Greek yorgurt idk why im always trying.
Souvla and eggs $28 was my favorite dish by far. The lamb was perfectly cooked—tender and juicy on the inside, with crispy, charred edges—and it paired wonderfully with the rich, runny yolk of the fried eggs and a side of fresh, healthy veggies. But why is there only 4 slices of lamb?
The unfiltered Greek coffee was too exotic we unfortunately did not acquire the taste, but the lemon tea was refreshing.
Overall I only liked 1/3 dishes, so can’t say I’m a fan, but it’s always better to waste money on food than the stock market anyway."

"So glad I finally checked out Bar Vlaha and regret not going sooner! Sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the bartenders making our awesome cocktails. You don't usually see frog legs on the menu, and theirs are so tasty and perfectly fried. Crispy oyster mushrooms are delicious as well. Our favorite dish was the crayfish with orzo is a flavorful tomato sauce. The leg of lamb is actually sliced off the bone and also seasoned well. The atmosphere is charming and has a European flair, and the noise level isn't bad because of the high ceilings. Already looking forward to coming back with friends and trying more dishes."

The Best Brunch Spots In Boston - Boston

Bar Vlaha’s dining room looks like if a Shaker opened a restaurant in a Greek farming village. Large wooden six-tops take up much of the sparsely decorated dining room, which is ideal for a place dedicated to great food best experienced with as many hungry friends as possible. Inspired by the Vlach cuisine of northern Greece, a perfect brunch order here includes the trio of dips (tzatziki, whipped spicy feta, and melitzanosalata), the hearty tost with wild mushrooms, crispy patates, fried saganaki cheese, and the impossibly airy tsoureki bread french toast.

BrooklineA vibrant reminder that Boston’s food scene reaches far beyond a mustard drizzled Fenway frank (a delicacy, of course), Bar Vlaha comes through with inspired Greek fare. The warmth of the decor creates a chic aesthetic (cue the cozy textiles), and the perfect ambiance to unwind after a busy day of Boston’s sights. The food, space, and philosophies are an homage to the Vlach people, nomadic shepherds from the rural mountain and lake villages of Central and Northern Greece.

31 Best Restaurants in Boston

This city is certainly no virgin to Greek food—but the team behind Krasi has continued to find delicious ways to reinvent the cuisine for Bostonians. Chef Brendan Pelley does so most notably with this down-home Vlach (an Indigenous population of Romanian and Moldovans) cuisine in Brookline's quiet Washington Square. It's far less cold/industrial wine bar and a lot more lamb-roasts-of-Greek-Orthodox-childhood.

The 50 Best Restaurants in Boston

It could be easily argued that Bar Vlaha is the crown jewel of Boston’s dining scene (let alone Xenia Greek Hospitality’s growing restaurant portfolio). Our top pick this year dials into the distinct regional delicacies of the nomadic Vlach people from central and northern Greece, which means the menu is loaded with slow-roasted lamb legs, charcoal-grilled freshwater fish, and all manner of savory pies and expertly prepared vegetables. Nothing’s more festive than dining family-style on astonishingly good fried mushrooms while watching meat turn on a spit in the open kitchen.
