After visiting Europe in 2022 I’m always on the lookout for authentic European baked goods and Janjou Pâtisserie in Boise, ID definitely hits the spot. This small but mighty French bakery has a delicious assortment of pastries. They have a great variety of croissant and brioche goodies as well as some decadent desserts and sandwiches. They also have a small and straightforward espresso menu. If ...

Reviews Summary

Janjou Pâtisserie is highly praised for its authentic French pastries, especially its incredibly flaky croissants and creative flavor combinations. Diners also rave about the expertly made coffee. However, some customers find the service to be snotty and the prices to be on the higher side, with limited seating often leading to waits.

"We are big foodies, and this place was top of my list to check out during our visit to Boise. It did not disappoint. The flavors are punchy, the textures were just right. Really creative combinations as well. Will probably stop here again before we leave because it was that good! Highly recommend. the Malabi brioche bun was a revelation 🤤and the rice pudding croissant was insane."

Hanna

"The pastries were definitely worth the wait. Had to wait outside until line was moving but it wasn’t too long of a wait. The selection was very good. Only reason why it’s a 4 star is their selection in what they serve the coffee in as it was difficult to hold due to it being hot. Overall the experience was great and the pastries tasted out of this world good. Will most definitely make a second trip to this place."

Erik Lopez

"As someone who hunts down the best pastries and sweet treats in every city they visit, Janjou was at the top of my list when visiting Boise. The texture of the laminate pastry was exceptional and each item they craft looks almost too good to eat. I was pleasantly surprised to find the coffee also exceeded my expectations; dialed to perfection and with expert level microfoam. I will be dreaming about this place and eager to return when I get the chance!"

The interior of Janjou Patisserie is almost defiantly precise and pristine, in Apple Store-like contrast to the rest of the town’s rustic, mountain-sporty aesthetic. Since 2008, the artisan boutique bakery has served delicately crafted pastries alongside traditional espresso drinks, including a faithful 6-ounce cappuccino and 4-ounce macchiato, which are rarities in this town. Their coffee is roasted by Lizzy’s Fresh Coffee, an outfit based in Ketchum, Idaho, a few hours east of Boise.

If there is one thing that's hard to square about Janjou Pâtisserie, it's that the stark white surfaces and clean lighting only tell one part of the pâtisserie's story. What the interior design accurately reveals is the level of surgical precision with which baker Moshit Mizrachi-Gabbitas approaches her craft as a two-time Beard nominee. The other side is that her shop's pastries are anything but sterile and feel more like a cozy hug for your palate.
