Throughout this two-story neoclassical building, you’ll find people celebrating anniversaries and job promotions over plates of decadent rabbit pappardelle and a yellowtail tuna bolognese that defies everything you thought tuna could be. They sub in fish, curing it for days and then grinding it, which yields a convincing version of spiced ground beef.

Keeping this in mind, a friend and I recently made our way to Stitt’s Bottega Cafe in Birmingham. We were the earlybirds on a Saturday night — we got there around 5:15, and just a few tables were occupied.

Bottega Restaurant and Bottega Café each boast their own private, hedge-lined patio. Massive iron gates serve as entry to both. And in the spring yellow Lady Banks roses burst with color and aroma—draping the water fountain on the restaurant side.

Anyone with a love for sweets has not had a complete meal until they’ve eaten the coconut-pecan cake. The interior and exterior at Bottega is what all our date night dreams are made of. The lighting and decor is an open invitation for romance.
