Reviews Summary

Republique is a highly-regarded Los Angeles establishment celebrated for its stunning ambiance and exceptional French-inspired cuisine, particularly its renowned brunch and bakery offerings. While many praise the delicious food and beautiful setting, some diners have noted issues with disorganized service during peak times. Despite potential waits, the quality of the food and the overall dining experience make it a destination worth visiting.

"No wonder this place is one of the most popular spots in all of LA. During the day they operate as a cafe and amazing brunch spot, and in the evening become a fancy dinner restaurant. The bakery selection is incredible, and everything looks so good. They also have a regular menu with food and drink options. The interior is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, grand architecture and plenty of space in a bustling environment. Despite the chaos they keep things very efficient and operating smoothly. The food was wonderful, everything we got was delicious. Definitely worth checking out, be sure to go early to avoid a long wait time."

"République is one of the few trendy spots in LA that actually lived up to the hype — no disappointment here! 🌟

We came in with high expectations, and it truly delivered. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful — warm, vibrant, and full of charm ✨. The food was just as impressive as the space!

We ordered the Eggs Benedict and the Chia Seed Bowl, and both were excellent 🍳🥣. The flavors were light yet well-balanced — exactly what you’d want from a quality brunch. It felt like a perfect, peaceful way to start the day ☀️.

We also tried one of their freshly baked cinnamon rolls (I think that’s the name — pictured here 📸), and it was super soft, fragrant, and not overly sweet — just right! 🌀🍥

Definitely a place I’d return to, whether for brunch, pastries, or just to enjoy the space with a coffee. Highly recommend! ✅💯"

"Dining here is all about the ingredients, meticulously sourced and skillfully prepared. On a busy Friday night, the accommodation for a non-reservation was the first hint of the exceptional service to come. I was seated beneath the glass-paneled roof with sunset light fading above me. It felt like Europe. The service is a benchmark of excellence: attentive, communicative, polite.

The corn beignet arrives looking like something too precious to eat, literally served on a silver platter, but you’ll devour it in one bite, maybe two. The oysters are next, clean, cool, briny, and balanced by the acidity of the mignonette. Then there’s the endive salad, precision, thoughtful composition with each element intentional. The corn agnolotti is tender pasta pillows bathed in rich brown butter, then crowned tableside with a drizzle of cherry balsamic. For my main, the duck offers varied textures from different cuts, each bite elevated by the blackberry peppercorn jus. The fries, yes, fries, deserve their moment: hot, crisp, herby. For dessert, the reimagined crème brûlée with tropical notes of mango and pandan layered under that crackled top.

République knows what it’s doing. Every moment considered. Every plate thoughtful. This is L.A. dining at its peak, proving that the best dining experiences don’t need the beach surrounded by the sound of crashing waves or the sight of swaying palm trees."

Best Brunch in Los Angeles to Enjoy This Weekend

Mid-CityChefs and owners Walter Manzke and Margarita Manzke are responsible for whetting Angelenos’ appetite for French delicacies with this all-day restaurant housed in a historic building erected by actor Charlie Chaplin. They’ve since expanded on the trend with the recent opening of Bicyclette and Manzke restaurants, but Republique remains a favorite for weekend brunches that feature seasonally changing dishes as well as Margarita Manzke’s beloved pastries. The menu spans veggie-friendly items like a pupusa stuffed with mushrooms, zucchini blossoms, black beans, and Oaxacan cheese and topped with a fried egg and avocado, as well as hangover-busting dishes like a Croque Madame with house-cured ham, gruyere cheese, baby green salad, and a fried egg.

14 Best French Restaurants in Los Angeles For Tasty Bistro Fare

Walter and Margarita Manzke’s award-winning, critically acclaimed La Brea bakery and restaurant is the one French(-Californian) restaurant that can’t be stopped. With the recent closures of Bicyclette and Manzke, République is the only place where you can find Margarita’s perfectly made baguettes and seasonal fruit-topped pastries and desserts. Brave the lines for brunch on the weekends, or head here in the evening with a reservation—or a bit of patience—to dine inside the cathedral-esque space that once housed Nancy Silverton and the late Mark Peel’s Campanile.

Where To Eat When You're Visiting Los Angeles - Los Angeles

Republique is this city’s most famous brunch place—known to draw big crowds on weekdays and even bigger crowds on weekends. They also serve dinner, but we much prefer to snag a table inside their palatial dining hall with huge skylights during the day. Republique is widely known as a powerhouse of French pastries, and that's the real reason why you should stand in line for upwards of thirty minutes to eat at this counter service spot.

The largely French-inspired menu at Republique has more than a few surprises on it, like the generous selection of oysters and kanpachi crudo in Thai green curry and peanuts. The high ceilings, walls of windows, and loads of natural light make the atmosphere ideal, as the omnipresent line outside suggests. The grilled octopus salad—made with cabbage, Santa Barbara pistachios, chile, citrus, and lime—is a must.

Which is probably what Charlie Chaplin said when he walked in, looked up from the indoor fountain and into the clock tower of this grand 1920s-era space, and turned it into his studio. It’s soaring, airy and welcoming, and it seems everyone wants to eat here on Sunday. Not for the faint of heart, in the best way.

The Top 25 Restaurants in Los Angeles

The second list entry from the Manzkes is a tasty touchstone of L.A.'s dining scene. Housed in an exquisite historic building, this mostly French (with a hint of Asian, American, and Italian) concept honors the space's former residents (the iconic Campanile restaurant and long before that Charlie Chaplin) with its superior service, convivial ambiance, easy-on-the-eyes plating, and most importantly perfectly prepared meals. This is not the place to come if you are on a diet of any kind because the Manzkes are all in on butter, sugar, cream, nuts, carbs, fat, and sauces—and believe us, you wouldn't want them to make butternut squash agnolotti, red-wine braised beef short rib, wild Maine sea scallops with black truffle and roasted hazelnuts, or brussels sprouts carbonara any other way.

The LA Restaurants Bringing the Fine Dining Experience to Your Home

For a still-decadent brunch that doesn’t run up a bill equivalent to rent, check out Republique’s multi-course weekend brunch: $32 per person gets you six courses served family style and a generous portion of orange juice, which can be transformed into a mimosa kit for $22 per bottle of prosecco. And hey, even if everyone involved needs their own bottle (it’s been a rough year, right?) that still comes in under $60 per person, a more than reasonable price point for any boozy brunch. With plenty of this West Hollywood staple’s signature baked goods — like fresh baguette with Normandy butter and jam, brioche french toast and banana poppyseed muffins — the prix fixe also balances carb-heavy sweets with soft scrambled eggs and kimchi fried rice with beef short rib.

The GP 13: Los Angeles' Best Restaurants

With long and star-studded resumes (Walter Manzke has worked at El Bulli, for one, while his wife, Margarita, worked at Melisse), nobody expected this ambitious duo’s newest LA venture to be anything less than extraordinary. Occupying the former home of Campanile (i.e., Charlie Chaplin’s film studio back in the ’20s), the focus here is on French-inflected staples, like duck confit, oysters, and tartes flambées. The uni toast is insane, the baguettes are absurd (Margarita is a pastry-chef), and the space has been reworked beautifully: The heavy floor tiles and mahogany tables were all imported from The Philippines, where Margarita was born.
