What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Anajak Thai is a highly acclaimed restaurant, celebrated for its innovative Thai cuisine and extensive wine list. While many praise the authentic flavors, unique dishes like the fried chicken and Drunken Noodles, and the attentive service, some diners find the price point high and the noise level disruptive. Portion sizes are also occasionally noted as being small for the cost.
"Finally got to come here and it did not disappoint. It was funny to see how every single table got the fried chicken. Our waiter recommended we use the sauce from the prawns for our chicken and that was the exact right recommendation. That said, the drunken noodles were really special too. Not oily, with a ton of nuanced flavor that you don't usually get for that dish."

"A delicious evening with some great friends. The restaurant was busy on this Saturday night but the hospitality and service was exceptional. The restaurant manager and Sommelier came by for greetings and to talk about their extensive wine list. The food was all cooked to perfection. Each entree came out steady.
We sat outside on the side of the alley under large heaters and jamming 2000s hip hop music. Seating was filled inside and out. The atmosphere was loud in the restaurant. There was also a line of people waiting on the sidewalk. We had made prior reservations.
It was a good first experience. I just wished the portions were bigger for the price.
Reservations are recommended. There's street parking. Some are metered. Free residence parking is on and around Dickens St."

"My first time here-wow!! I was blown away by the friendliness of the staff (I’ve never had so many staff check in with me during my dining experience in a while). They definitely know how to make someone feel at home. I’d say the big miss was the fried chicken (it’s 5 pieces). I was curious about it since it was their “signature dish”. For one it’s like $35/40 which I think is a little steep. I thought it was very underwhelming it just felt very disjointed (didn’t really get the signature appeal of it). The waiter asked if I wanted to take any of it home (I told him I wasn’t very impressed with it; was a miss for me). Between the steep price tag and underwhelming flavor I definitely had some “buyers remorse” on that dish haha. I went with the spicy drunken noodles (added chicken) that was very delicious (great flavors). It definitely brought the heat; portion size was appropriate for the pricing. I’d definitely come back for the drunken noodles or to try other entree options definitely pass on the fried chicken.
Parking is street parking; the lot next to them is for chipotle customers.
I’d definitely recommend Anjak Thai excellent spot for Thai food in LA."

20 Best Fried Chicken Spots in Los Angeles
Fame has lessened the appeal of visiting this much-hyped Thai restaurant in the Valley, where second-generation chef Justin Pichetrungsi holds court over the restaurant's infamously busy Thai Taco Tuesdays (where, on a good day, you’ll wait only a hour to be seated—unless you’re a celebrity, of course), plus dinner service and monthly omakase dinners that are all but impossible to book. Still, I can’t deny the food is excellent, including one extremely craveable dish: Hat yai fried chicken. Crispy and perfectly seasoned, the Southern Thai-style chicken pairs wonderfully with the white rice and spicy, deeply aromatic nam jim sauce that come on the side.
Best Food in LA: Most Essential Places to Eat & Food to Try
Though it is impossible to pinpoint LA’s best dining to one place, if given no other choice, Thai Taco Tuesdays at chef Justin Pichetrungsi’s family-owned Thai restaurant, Anajak Thai, in Sherman Oaks might be the answer. On Tuesday nights, Pichetrungsi moves the seating to the adjacent alley for an al fresco party fueled by by-the-bottle-only old school and natural wines. A handwritten menu lists some of his regular dishes, like Southern Thai style fried chicken with sticky rice along with tacos and tostada specials.
The Best Los Angeles Restaurants
This family-run Thai restaurant in Sherman Oaks has a superpower: shape-shifting. Tuesdays are for Thai-inspired tacos and tostadas, which make sense the second you taste them, or for cheffy, one-off collaborations, while the last weekend of each month means it’s time for Justin Pichetrungsi’s freestyle tasting menu. But what some might consider the ordinary days in between are a joy, too, with dishes like the mouthwatering fish custard haw mok or Southern Thai fried chicken.

Best restaurants in California, from San Diego to the Bay Area
In 2019 Justin Pichetrungsi made the life-changing decision to leave a thriving career as an art director at Walt Disney Imagineering and take over the Sherman Oaks restaurant his parents founded in 1981. Anajak’s core menu continues to honor Ricky Pichetrungsi, Justin’s father, whose recipes merge his Thai upbringing and Cantonese heritage. The creative individualism that Justin has asserted — specifically his Thai Taco Tuesday phenomenon, when the menu crisscrosses fish tacos lit up by chili crisp and limey nam jim with wok-fragrant drunken noodles and Dungeness crab fried rice, and also building what has become one of L.A.’s great wine lists — catapulted the restaurant into one of the decade’s great dining sensations.
25 great wine bars and wine restaurants in Los Angeles 2025
For most of its 43-year history, Anajak Thai served as a dependable, straightforward Thai restaurant serving the community of Sherman Oaks, in the San Fernando Valley. That all changed in 2019, when Justin Pichetrungsi, son of the founder-owners, took over the management of the restaurant and began to make some changes. The playlist was modernised (and turned way up), the Pichetrungsi family recipes were retooled using California’s stellar farmer’s market produce, caviar supplements were made available and, most significantly, a proper wine program was created to complement the newfound finess...
