Reviews Summary
TJ Ribs is celebrated for its legendary baby back ribs and Cajun-inspired flavors, with many praising the tender meat and smoky wings. The restaurant's atmosphere, enhanced by extensive LSU memorabilia, is a significant draw. However, some diners have noted a decline in service quality and food consistency over the years, with occasional complaints about flavor and temperature.
"BBQ in Louisiana! Right off I-10 and what a place. Large menu - would take many visits to explore it all. We ordered based on our usual back home experience - meatloaf, burnt ends, sausage, coleslaw, green beans, sweet potato fries, mashed potato and a loaded baked potato. Also ordered the gumbo something we don’t have. Meat was all great and portion size met expectations. There were two sauces available- mild and hot at the table. Green beans had more spice than the hot sauce. I enjoyed them. Coleslaw was offered with peanuts as an option but I didn’t think that added anything. The sweet potato fries were waffle fries were crisp and light - best we ever had. Mashed potatoes were fresh - skins could be seen. Baked potato was perfectly cooked. Gumbo was delicious, we both wish there was more okra. Overall outstanding BBQ. I will be back for the ribs!"

"The evening in Baton Rouge moves like molasses—slow, thick, inevitable. The air hangs heavy with heat and the lingering perfume of woodsmoke and spice, the scent of something coaxed, not forced, into existence. There’s an unspoken rule here: you don’t rush the good things. And right now, I want something worth waiting for.
So I find myself at TJ Ribs, where LSU’s legends don’t just hang on the walls—they loom. Their ghosts sit in the booths, nodding in silent approval, watching over a menu that doesn’t waste time with nonsense. It’s barbecue, done right. I don’t hesitate. I order the full rack.
When it arrives, it’s everything it should be. A plate of ribs that have known patience, given over to time and smoke like some kind of slow Southern prayer. First, the dry rub, deep and knowing. Then the low heat, the long wait, the transformation. Fire at the end, but just enough—because the ribs don’t need to be drowned in sauce. They need to be honored.
Potato salad on the side, the cool, starchy pause before the next bite. Slaw, crisp and clean, like a deep breath between sips of sweet tea that drips condensation onto the table.
I take my time, because a meal like this isn’t just about eating—it’s about understanding. This is food with history, ribs with a story, and a place where tradition doesn’t just sit in a glass case—it sits next to you at the bar. Billy Cannon frozen in mid-stride, Pistol Pete caught in a flicker of impossible grace, Shaq with that unmistakable grin like a man carrying more than just a team. Some restaurants serve food. TJ Ribs serves memories.
And as I walk out into the thick Baton Rouge night, the taste still lingers—smoke, spice, the weight of something done right. Some places fade. Some things get lost. But not here. Here, history isn’t just told. It’s eaten."

"Cute spot has lots of space for parties get-togethers or celebrations. The food was absolutely phenomenal. The only downfall would be the white cheese for the macaroni. And cheese, however, the ribs, the catfish, and everything else was fantastic and highly recommended. You won't be disappointed!"

Renowned restaurateur Thomas “TJ” Moran’s eponymous barbecue joint has been serving up brisket, chicken, sausage and steaks for nearly three decades, but it’s always been the baby back ribs that truly rule. Marinated for 24 hours before they’re slow-cooked to perfection, they boast tender meat that falls off the bone and just about melts in your mouth.
