Episode 7: Overpass Merchant 🍔 PTL for this burger. It’s still towards the top of the list but how did it fare in our complicated and flawed rating system? Reviews Summary

The Overpass Merchant is lauded for its delicious comfort food with a modern twist, particularly its signature burger and cheese curds. Diners praise the lively atmosphere and attentive service, making it a great spot for casual dining and brunch. However, some note that the interior can feel cramped, and parking might be a challenge during peak hours.

"My husband, family friends, and I stopped in at this place while heading to NOLA/Taylor Swift concert. What an awesome place! If you are looking for a very cute spot with great food this is the place! I ordered a burger it was so delicious! Our server was very nice and easy going! I would totally go back to this place if I am in the area! The bathroom had awesome wall art!"

Angel Strother

"The food was OK with a menu that isn’t full of random stuff. Pretty straight at the point.
We ordered the burgers and the cheese curds.
The cheese curds were mid, but the burger was tasty.
The only thing I didn’t like about the place was that the tables are too close to each other. We heard everything that people next to us were taking about.
Also the parking is limited. You have to park under the bridge or something.
But it’s still a decent spot close to campus so there’s that."

Tyler Tolbert

"Enjoyed lunch with 2 other guest. Had the chicken club sandwich with brussell sprouts. Chicken was very juicy and sprouts were delicious with a bit of char. Other guest enjoyed their shrimp salad and burger and fries. Service: Server was excellent and exceeded expectations . Overall good place for a nice meal in Baton Rouge.
Parking: is under the overpass as the name states and may be a bit confusing when you pull in, is an open lot style so park as needed under the bridge pillars. Handicap spots are close to the building and they do have ramp access.
Outside seating is available but we chose to eat indoors."

What is it: When the Perkins Road Overpass dive Zee Zee Gardens finally croaked (probably of emphysema), news that the bar was being replaced by a gastropub rankled some. But The Overpass Merchant’s playful menu—including brisket tacos, hot chicken and fried Brussels sprouts tossed in lemongrass vinaigrette—won over even the most hard-hearted. Stiff cocktails and a frequently updated beer list helped too.Why go: The smoke may have wafted away for good, but The Merch still feels like a beloved neighborhood establishment.

Matt Sigur: The best food I ate in Baton Rouge in 2017 | Entertainment/Life

Cheese curds from The Overpass Merchant: When I was a kid, there was this Italian restaurant in Monroe that served the best cheese sticks. This proves: a) I've been a gourmand since second grade; and b) The Overpass Merchant's cheese curds remind me of those crispy, cheesy fried bites from that childhood restaurant, which is honestly the best compliment ever.

Ranch water is on the rise at Baton Rouge bars and restaurants

The Overpass Merchant serves the drink over crushed ice in a rocks glass, and recently introduced the Ranch Anawanna, a fruity riff that incorporates fresh watermelon juice. Barracuda Taco Stand’s formula uses Lunazul Blanco tequila, lime juice, a generous topper of Topo Chico and a hint of cane sugar, which offsets the drink’s natural bitterness.
