Reviews Summary

Capital City Grill offers a mixed dining experience. Many praise the expertly cooked steaks and flavorful Louisiana dishes, alongside attentive service. However, some diners have encountered issues with food preparation and a less-than-ideal customer service interaction with a chef.

"We were visiting from South Carolina for a work conference and after a 13 hour drive all we wanted was some good food. Capital Grill absolutely delivered!! The crawfish étouffée and the salmon were delicious! These dishes were packed full of flavor and hit the spot after eating fast food all day. Our waitress Ashley was also an absolute gem! She was warm and welcoming and embodied southern hospitality. She gave us a parting gift of a lemon which has now became an inside joke at the office. Thank you Ashley! P.S. the bread pudding is to die for!"

"We were in the city for a workshop. This restaurant was within walking distance. Wait wasn't as long as we were quoted. Our server was good. I ordered the southwest pasta. It didn't taste right. I'm assuming the guy that came out was the chef and he was really ugly to me when he questioned why I didn't like it. I told him it didn't taste right, he told me I've sold 100 of these today and I don't understand what you don't like about it. He grabbed the plate and stormed off. I ordered a shrimp salad which was a lot better. The shrimp were big and seasoned well. The salad was big enough for me to have for lunch the next day. I'm not sure I'd visit this place again."

"Food at Capital City Grill was not good at all. I had the French dip, and the meat was so tough I couldn’t even bite through it — I ended up pulling most of it out with every bite. The horseradish tasted days old, and the fries were way over-seasoned and super salty. Granted, it’s a bar and they probably want you to drink more, but the food should still be decent. The only thing I actually enjoyed were the hush puppies — they were good, but a honey butter sauce would really help offset how salty the rest of the dish was. Overall, this feels like a classic case of an owner or manager not tasting their own food regularly to make sure the quality is up to par. I wouldn’t recommend it. Amanda my server was excellent and the service doesn’t reflect the food, also another case of upscale look with mediocre food."

If so, I would try the Capital City Grill or Tsunami but you'll need reservations for Tsunami unless you go early. Tsunami also has a sushi bar that is fun and I would think could easily accommodate you even without a reservation. We were there Friday night at 5:30 to have a drink on the adjacent roof top terrace overlooking the Mighty Mississippi (gorgeous - be sure to go up there even if you're not eating at the restaurant.) It is located on top of the Shaw Center Art Museum.

Here is a breakdown of some bars: City Bar (if you are with girls who want to dance, go upstairs), Boudreaux & Thibodeaux’s (Chill, live music most of the time, cheap drinks), The office (better be with some fine ladies, otherwise you aren’t getting in. Great view of the river on the patio), Happy’s (irish drinking pub), The Roux House (good vibe, normally have brass band playing on Friday’s). Walk up and down the street, and be sure to grab late night pizza slices from “Schlitz and Giggles”.
