The owner of our B&B recommended to a couple staying there the West Street Cafe. We saw them later and they said it was nothing to write home about.

Light, airy, and chic, the seasonal West Street Café feels urban—without the typical pretension and showiness of most city bars. Located on the historic West Street Cafe, West Street Cafe is near the waterfront in downtown Bar Harbor. They are best known for their “Downeast Special”, which includes 1 ¼ pounds of Maine lobster, a cup of clam chowder, french fries, cole slaw, and a slice of blueberry pie. Their mouth watering lobster is best dipped in their savory butter, which makes for a delicious bite every time.

West Street Café is located in Bar Harbor at the corner of West St/ and Rodick St. It has downstairs and upstairs seating, which gives a unique perspective of the shopping scene down West St., views of Bar Harbor (the actual body of water), and the cliffs of Bar Island to the North. The dining atmosphere is modern booth and table seating with accents of black metal and hanging plants.

West Street Cafe is another excellent cafe style restaurant you can find around Bar Harbor. The great thing about this place is that apparently they have the “best blueberry pie” you can find in New England according to many five star ratings. West Street Cafe is a seasonal restaurant, so their hours may change as the days start getting colder.

We’re not restaurant critics, Steve and Janet, but among the places where we’ve had enjoyable lobster meals: Galyn’s in Bar Harbor, Thurston’s Lobster Pound in Bernard, and Stewman’s Lobster Pound on West Street in Bar Harbor (where President Obama and his family dined in July 2010). In the downtown Bar Harbor area, we enjoyed the food at trendy West Street Cafe and homey Side Street Cafe. As I mentioned, Jordan Pond House is a must while you're in the park, for the popovers alone. But our favorite meal of all was at Beal's Lobster Pier in the Bass Harbor area.

And some of the best lobster dishes in the area can be found at Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes, Geddy’s (lobster roll), The Travellin Lobster, C-Ray Lobster, Rose Eden Lobster, Galyn’s, West Street Cafe, Peekytoe Provisions, Thirsty Whale Tavern, Side Street Cafe, The Chart Room, etc.

The West Street Cafe re-opened in 2018 with a beautiful new interior and a revamped menu. They are best known for their “Downeast Special” which includes 1 1/4 lbs of fresh Maine lobster, a cup of clam chowder, french fries, coleslaw and a slice of blueberry pie.

Haven't had a bad meal from here and is very consistent, since I remember them having high quality years ago too. The clam chowder is a favorite. They're pretty good with gluten sensitive options (not sure how they are for the more strict celiac diets).

A nap was a welcomed break that afternoon before heading into downtown in early evening. Historic Downtown Bar Harbor is like a New England Hallmark movie by the water. Clean streets and mom & pop stores blanket the area.

Adults can tuck into lobster rolls while kids get simple options like grilled cheese or pasta. If you’re into dessert, their Maine blueberry pie is worth saving room for.

The cruise line tour will be a bus, not many photo ops and lunch used to be at a pavilion. Take Ollies and find a great place in town for lobster. We like West St Cafe
