This small shack is a bit further away from Bar Harbor’s downtown scene, but its location near the bridge connecting Mount Desert Island with mainland Maine makes it a great first or last stop of your trip. It can get very crowded during peak summer months, but it’s worth the wait for lobster feasts and buttery seafood rolls. Large pieces in the roll are tender and beautifully creamy in each bite, and other things like chicken wraps and mac and cheese will keep the crustacean-averse happy.

Elsewhere, the Travelin Lobster whips up incredible cold and hot lobster rolls, sourced directly from local fishermen and served in a charming shack-like locale. Don’t leave without indulging in the blueberry ice cream and pie—it’s palette-cleanser from heaven. A short drive outside of Bar Harbor reveals Beal's Lobster Pier, where lobster and cocktails dominate the tables dotting a patio overlooking Southwest Harbor.

Side Street Cafe lobster roll and lobster mac n cheese were very very good!. Again, the lobster roll was another first for us. Oh, we did eat at West Street Cafe one meal, and I probably wouldn't go back to it.

The Travelin Lobster, LLC - For some of the best seafood on the East Coast your group will need to make a stop at The Travelin Lobster, LLC. This juicy lobster pot hot spot is lobsterman owned and operated, a family business that has seen several generations of lobstering here on Mount Desert Island. The restaurant receives a fresh catch daily (except for Sundays when they are closed) by owner Phil, who catches lobsters from 1 1/4th pound to over 2 pounds. Try the Best Catch Lobster Dinner with lobster, corn, mussels, and melted butter or try any of the other great dishes offered here such as the clams, lobster rolls, or lobster bisque.

A seasonal local sensation, this spot has been in business since the 1970s. The Travelin’ Lobster offers outdoor seating only, and get there early for your lobster roll; these babies sell out fast. The menu offers more roll options than any other establishment reviewed here, so be sure to take a peek if you’re not going to take my word for the best one—The Original: 6 ounces of meat served on a toasted brioche roll with Kenzie’s Special Yum Yum Sauce drizzled over the top.

Researching the best lobster roll in Bar Harbor, we found the heavily-recommended Travelin’ Lobster, one of a gazillion tiny roadside lobster shacks in the Bar Harbor area, and luckily for us, it opened for the season the day before we were leaving town. The classic lobster roll was SO GOOD, and they have lots of other lobstery delights on the menu if you aren’t as into lobster rolls as we are.

They also tackled something that I personally attempted many years ago, the hiked the extremely challenging Precipice Trail, which is no easy feat, but trust me, it is an experience you never forget. A family-owned and -operated business since the 1970s, it found its current home in 2016, where it offers outdoor seating until it closes at dusk. Be sure to get there early in the day, not only because of the early closing, but because you’ll get the freshest lobsters from that morning’s catch.

Bar Harbor’s top-rated restaurant on Trip-Advisor isn’t even in the town proper. It’s on the side of State Highway 102 just a mile south of the Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA Holiday. Fisherman-owned and operated, it serves trap-to-table lobster rolls with garlic or sriracha aioli dipping sauces.

Whenever you begin the return journey to Boston, grab a final lunch at The Nor’Easter Pound & Market or The Travelin Lobster (open May 19,) lobstermen-owned seafood eateries where boat-to-table lobsters and steamers are paired with bubbling stockpots of chowder and bisque.

One of the best things to do in Bar Harbor with kids happens on the water!. If you want to explore by sea, consider hiring a Maine Guide through National Park Sea Kayak Tours. Experienced guides will plan the five to six-and-a-half-mile route depending on the weather.

The Travelin Lobster LLC is a family-owned and operated restaurant. The Corson family has been lobstering for generations throughout the waters of Mount Desert Island. They opened their doors in the 1970s with Captain Phil Corson’s parents, Philip & Caroll Corson.

Just outside downtown Bar Harbor, Travelin’ Lobster has a limited menu focused on lobster. This amazing lobster pound has been serving up seafood for decades!. Fresh lobster is delivered every day so you’ll always be eating today’s catch.

The Travelin Lobster – Right down the road from Terramor is The Travelin Lobster. This funky, fisherman-owned counter-serve stand was so delicious, we went twice!. The ratings for this place are off the charts, and for good reason!.

Dozens of other dishes are centered around the much-loved seafood. Their hours are set seasonally and change often, so call ahead, (207) 288-8028. They stop their waitlist an hour before closing to ensure they close on time.

We stayed in a cute little cottage and got really delicious lobster rolls from The Travelin’ Lobster. We picked up a bottle of wine from the wine shop down the street and sipped it on our porch after the girls went to bed.

This lobster shack on the side of route 102 as you enter onto MDI is run by the Corson family. They have been running lobster shacks at other locations before moving to this high visibility location in 2016

We’ve debated this quite a bit and can’t decide if it was good or bad that we waited until our last day to try what we are confident is the best lobster roll in Bar Harbor.

I loved watching the water with a cocktail at The Terrace Grill, sampling the local brews at Atlantic Brewing Company, and visiting Bar Harbor Cellars for a wine tasting.
