Peekytoe uses only responsibly harvested seafood, composts all of their food waste, and 100% of their electricity is generated by solar power. All of that environmental awareness—AND they make kick-butt lobster rolls!. You have choices to make at this seasonal spot, as well: A 6” lightly-mayo’d cold roll with 4 ounces of meat, a 12” with 8 ounces of meat, or either size with hot sautéed meat and lemon-thyme butter.

The locals at the bar at Atlantic told us to get clam chowder at Peekytoe Provisions in downtown Bar Harbor. The interior of the store was cute and stocked with local products, but we chose to sit outside on the patio since the weather was warming up. We sampled several items from the sustainably-sourced seafood menu: the seafood chowder, a classic lobster roll, and Maine blueberry pie.

Appetizer down, we walked around town shops a bit more before landing at a recommended restaurant, Peekytoe Provisions, which was just as much seafood store as restaurant. In fact, I would say it was more store and less restaurant than Santa Monica Seafood, if that’s a helpful touchstone to any reader?. Erin had and absolutely loved the lobster bisque and crab cakes, which I sampled.

Peekytoe Provisions in Bar Harbor is a low key restaurant with great smoked fish chowder and many lobster options. Overall this is a wonderful place for seafood and conveniently located on Main Street in the downtown area. John’s personal favorite was the lobster grilled cheese and Bev liked the lobster rolls.

This is your spot for super fresh lobsters, oysters and everything in between. Originally a fish market, they now offer dine-in and takeout menus with locally and sustainably sourced seafood. All shellfish is locally sourced and the oysters are to die for!

Peekytoe Provisions offers regional seafood dishes and outdoor dining. We enjoyed crab bisque to start, which has a more liquid-y consistency here, but is full of rich flavor. For my entree I had the crabby patty burger ($19) which was incredible.

This gourmet market is a favorite among locals for its wide selection of fresh seafood, local produce, and prepared foods. Stock up on picnic supplies or grab a delicious sandwich to go.
